Job Description:We are looking for a hands-on technical leader to define, build, and scale our Data Visualization Practice.
You will serve as the "Player-Coach" for the unit: defining the Go-To-Market strategy and winning new business, while simultaneously acting as the Chief Architect who defines the engineering standards for the team. You will lead the transition to code-first BI (TMDL, Git) while ensuring our solutions integrate seamlessly with any modern data platform (Fabric, Databricks, BigQuery, Snowflake, etc.).
1. Practice Strategy & Commercial Support
Go-to-Market Strategy: Support the definition and execution of the practice roadmap, service offerings, and sales strategy.
Pre-Sales Support & Solutioning: Partner with the PreSales and Sales teams to support technical pre-sales, design solution architectures, and scope proposals (SOWs) for clients.
Team Leadership: Recruit, mentor, and lead a team of BI Architects and Analysts, fostering a culture of technical excellence.
2. Technical Architecture & Engineering Standards
Modern BI Governance: Enforce the use of TMDL (Tabular Model Definition Language), Git-based version control, and CI/CD pipelines to treat BI as a software engineering discipline.
Advanced Data Modeling: Enforce strict Dimensional Modeling (Kimball) standards across the team to ensure scalability and performance.
Source-Agnostic Integration: Architect robust semantic models that consume data from diverse modern data platforms, including Databricks, Google BigQuery, Amazon Redshift, Snowflake, and Microsoft Fabric, that also leverages a strategy for Import vs. DirectQuery vs. Composite Models to optimize performance over non-native sources (Databricks, Snowflake, etc.)
Quality Assurance: Act as the lead technical reviewer for complex DAX, data models, and code merges, ensuring "pixel-perfect" and performant delivery.
Al-Augmented Development: Lead the adoption of Al tools (Copilot in Fabric/Power BI) to accelerate DAX generation and documentation, tracking efficiency gains.
Visual Governance: Enforce the 'Mockup-First' methodology, ensuring no development begins without a signed-off prototype from the UX/UI team.
Must-Have Technical Skills:
- Power BI Mastery: Expert-level capability in DAX, Power Query (M), and calculation groups. You must be able to debug the most complex performance issues.
- Advanced SQL: You must be fluent in writing complex SQL queries for data analysis and validation across different dialects (T-SQL, Spark SQL, BigQuery SQL, etc.).
- Code-First BI Experience: Hands-on experience with Tabular Editor, TMDL, and Git integration.
- Data Modeling: Deep expertise in Star Schema design and Kimball methodologies.
Broad Data Ecosystem Knowledge:
- Proven experience connecting BI tools to non-Microsoft sources (e.g., Databricks Lakehouse, Google BigQuery, AWS Redshift). You understand the nuances of Direct Query vs. Import in these scenarios.
Nice-to-Have Skills:
- Tableau: Experience designing and deploying Tableau solutions (to support agnostic client requests).
- Python: Ability to use Python for light data engineering or scripting.
- dbt: Familiarity with dbt for transformation layers.
Soft Skills:
- Commercial Acumen: Experience in consulting pre-sales, commercial modeling, and writing proposals.
- Communication: Ability to translate technical complexity into clear business value for C-Level stakeholders.
Success Metrics
Adoption: Successful rollout of the new "Code-First" workflow (TMDL/Git) across the team.
Growth: Increase in practice revenue through successful pre-sales and new client wins.
Quality: Reduction in rework and increase in stakeholder satisfaction via the new "Mockup-First" governance.
