Job Description:

Internal Job Title: Product Manager

Job Type: Permanent, Full Time

Location: 145 Richmond Road/975 Gladstone Avenue, Ottawa

Work Model: On-site

 

Position Summary

As a Product Manager in our Plant Operations group, you will be responsible for developing a deep understanding of the complex and specialized equipment used to create various ID products and then utilizing that knowledge to assess product designs and recommend the best equipment and most effective process for their manufacture.  The Product Manager is the end-customer’s representative within CBN ensuring products are delivered on time, to specification, and within budget.

 

Responsibilities

Production Oversight

  • Monitor (and in some cases perform) all duties and responsibilities of the Associate Product Manager.
  • Make decisions (based on assessed risk and cost impact) that affect the quality, delivery, or cost of products (escalating to Senior Manager of Product Manufacturing or Value Stream Lead where necessary).
  • Make quality decisions or recommendations based on the data with the customer’s best interests in mind.

Production Planning and Process Management

  • Review product designs, determine manufacturing processes and the order of processes, then generate work orders.
  • Proactively ensure all materials are ordered and on track to meet the customer cost, delivery, and technical requirements as agreed to by manufacturing.
  • Interact with suppliers to ensure the materials provided will generate a product that meets the customer specification and requirements.
  • Develop and track schedules against the commitments to the customer and escalate (in writing) when behind schedule.
  • Support the development of associated production schedules, forecasts, and risk management plans and distribute them to all departmental representatives to ensure clear project communication.

Costing and Performance Improvement

  • Understand the job costing reports and estimates and provide inputs used to create them; use this information to improve manufacturing performance on repeat orders.
  • Complete post-production lesson-learned exercises and identify opportunities for future improvements where possible.

Communication and Coordination

  • Responsible for all communication between customers, suppliers, logistics, sales (or business development), and Manufacturing that affect the quality, cost, or delivery timing.
  • Organize and attend various client and internal production meetings, document the proceedings, and create and disseminate summaries to the team as requested.

Issue Resolution and Risk Management

  • Address production issues/concerns that could negatively impact performance standards and, working with senior management, develop contingency and remedial action plans.

 

Qualifications:

Education and Knowledge

  • University degree in Printing Technology, Manufacturing or Engineering or equivalent work experience in a print or manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of the following:
    • Print manufacturing and production processes (printing methods, quality standards, production workflows, job costing)
    • Project management principles (scheduling, risk management, resource planning)
    • Understanding of Lean Six Sigma in a production environment
    • MS 365, ERP system, analytics software

Experience

  • 5-7 years of working in a production environment within the print industry

Mandatory Requirements

  • Security Clearance: Ability to obtain and maintain Government of Canada Secret (Level II) clearance.
  • Travel: Ability to travel throughout North America approximately 10-15% annually.
  • Work Hours: Ability to work outside of standard business hours as required.
  • Physical Demands: Walk/Stand for prolonged periods
