Brown University’s Department of Education seeks to hire an Assistant Professor (Teaching) of Education with expertise in Science Education at the secondary level. The department is multi-disciplinary with a strong applied focus and commitment to mutually beneficial partnerships with urban schools and the local community. We are especially interested in qualified candidates who, through their teaching, service, or research, contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community and to our department's mission to understand and improve education.

 

The faculty member will teach and advise students in our intensive one-year, urban-focused Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program and our Education Studies undergraduate concentration. Responsibilities include teaching graduate courses in teacher education (including science methods); mentoring and supervising student-teachers' experiences; advising undergraduate and graduate students; and supporting the professional development of teachers and alumni in the local area. This is a three-year renewable-term position that includes summer teaching and supervision responsibilities, beginning in summer 2026, with potential for promotion.   


Applicants must have a master's degree or a doctorate in Education or a related field. The most qualified applicants will have experience in K-12 teaching; teaching and supervision of new teachers; strong knowledge of and expertise in the research and pedagogy on science education; an ability to work closely and productively with school and university colleagues; and a commitment to advancing educational equity in urban schools.
