PURPOSE

As a Director of Transportation at Central Valley Ag, you will be responsible for the day to day and strategic operations of the Transport Division. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Directs activities related to dispatching, routing and tracking transportation trucks. 
  • Oversees profitability of the division. 
  • Plans, organizes and manages the subordinate staff to ensure work is accomplished. 
  • Directs investigations to verify and resolve shipping problems. 
  • Implements schedule and policy changes. 
  • Collaborates with other managers and team members to ensure efficient use of trucks and drivers. 
  • Monitors and oversees meetings for compliance with policies and procedures for the Company, State and Federal agencies including necessary documentation. 
  • Promotes a safe work environment by conducting safety audits and providing safety training. 
  • Oversees maintenance and repairs of trucks. 
  • Creates and follows budget guidelines by managing expenditures. 
  • Works closely with the Chief Operating Officer in communicating and implementing company policies and procedures. 
  • Performs supervisory responsibility in accordance with current Central Valley Ag policies and applicable laws. 
  • Responsible for interviewing, hiring and training employees. 
  • Plans, assigns and directs work of employees. 
  • Completes performance appraisals, rewards employees, disciplines employees, addresses complaints and resolves employee problems.  
  • Performs other duties as assigned. 

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Directly supervises 6 to 12 employees.

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems in conjunction with division heads.  Focus on highly engaged workforce with great communication skills.

 

REQUIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

  • Two-year degree in a related field and/or 4 to 6 years’ experience.  Four-year degree preferred.
  • Great understanding of the trucking industry in the CVA trade area.
  • Ability to communicate in a professional manner and establish effective working relationships with internal operations and external customers.  
  • Works in a way that demonstrates safety is a priority.  Promotes a work environment that is safe for everyone.

  • Can plan, prioritize, organize and manage resources in order to accomplish jobs within the defined timetable. 
  • Ability to multi-task several assignments simultaneously and establish job priorities, logic and reasoning to identify solutions to problems.
  • Has a good understanding of basic computer skills and the ability to learn how to use software quickly.
  • Has the ability to work with others to resolve complaints.
  • Displays the ability to work in a collaborative and team oriented environment.
  • Must be able to use mathematics to solve problems and to perform calculations.
  • Use and understanding of fundamental accounting skills required.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents required.
