Position Summary
The Hand Assembly Associate is responsible for gathering, inspecting, and assembling components for direct mail projects. This includes manually inserting items into envelopes, mailers, boxes, or kits while ensuring accuracy, quality, and adherence to production deadlines. This position requires strong attention to detail, manual dexterity, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspect components for defects, damage, or inconsistencies throughout the assembly process.
- Ensure all finished products meet established quality and safety standards before moving to the next step.
- Accurately count, sort, bundle, and package completed materials.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area following 5S or similar workplace organization practices.
- Follow all production schedules, safety procedures, standard operating instructions, and company policies.
- Report material shortages, equipment issues, or quality concerns to the supervisor promptly.
- Assist with labeling, inventory processing, documentation, and basic recordkeeping as needed.
- Support team members and participate in continuous improvement, workflow efficiency, and productivity initiatives.

Qualifications
Required Skills & Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (preferred, not required).
- 1+ year experience in hand assembly, manufacturing, warehouse, kitting, electronics assembly, or similar environment .
- Strong manual dexterity with the ability to perform repetitive tasks accurately and consistently.
- Ability to read and follow written instructions, diagrams, envelope insert maps, and work orders.
- Understanding of basic quality control principles.
- Good communication, dependability, and teamwork skills.
- Ability to lift 20–30 lbs.
- Ability to stand or sit for extended periods depending on the assignment.
Language Skills
- Ability to communicate verbally in English
- Ability to read and comprehend written and verbal instructions in English
- Excellent communication skills – written, verbal, and listening
Physical Requirements
- Repetitive hand, wrist, and arm movements for tasks such as stuffing, sorting, folding, taping, collating, and packaging.
- Fine motor skills for handling small parts, paper items, inserts, cards, labels, and envelopes.
- Visual acuity needed for close-up inspection of labels, barcodes, printed materials, and component alignment.
- Ability to sit or stand at a workbench or assembly table for long periods (up to entire shift depending on assignment).
- Ability to lift, push, or pull materials, trays, totes, or bundles weighing up to 20–30 lbs. regularly.
- Bending, reaching, twisting, and stretching during assembly tasks, packaging, or retrieving materials.
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks with sustained attention to detail.
Essential Job Functions
- Maintain consistent productivity and accuracy to meet customer deadlines.
- Follow written instructions, work orders, and production specifications.
- Safely operate simple hand tools, tape guns, carts, pallet jacks, and material handling equipment.
- Maintain quality standards for all assigned work.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members regarding issues or workflow needs.
Work Hours & Scheduling
- Hours may vary based on project volume and customer deadlines.
- Overtime, weekends, or adjusted schedules may be required during peak mailing periods.
Work Environment
- Employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts.
- Employee is frequently exposed to fumes and/or airborne particles.
- Employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and extreme heat while working next to driers.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
- Fast-paced production and direct mail fulfillment environment.
- May require PPE such as gloves, ear protection, safety glasses, or ESD gear based on job materials.
- Exposure to small components, paper dust, adhesives, tape dispensers, cutting tools, and light machinery.
- Frequent collaboration with production, supervisors, and quality control staff.
