Position Summary

We are a faith-based nonprofit serving the United Church of Christ (UCC) community through three core areas:

  • Retirement and Health Benefits for clergy and lay workers
  • Ministerial Resources, including grants and educational programs
  • Philanthropy, which fuels our mission and supports ministry professionals and their organizations

Our work empowers UCC employers and ministry professionals to thrive in their vocations and sustain their missions.

The Senior Manager, Philanthropy will report to the Director of Church Relations and Philanthropy and work closely with them to lead strategic fundraising initiatives that support ministerial resource programs and grants. This role will also collaborate with UCC organizations to enhance their fundraising capacity—an essential element in sustaining ministry compensation and long-term viability. This role will drive donor engagement, cultivate strategic development partnerships, and collaborate across internal departments and external ministries to ensure fundraising efforts align with organizational goals and UCC values.

The Senior Manager will be responsible for cultivating and managing a robust donor pipeline, from small donors to major gift prospects, and will leverage proven fundraising strategies in ways that are contextually appropriate for our constituents and the church setting.

What you’ll do:

Fundraising Strategy & Execution

  • Develop and execute campaigns that both align with our financial ministry’s strategic stewardship and engagement strategy, and balance revenue streams from small donors to major gifts to achieve stated goals
  • Leverage proven fundraising strategies and adapt them to fit the unique needs of our constituents and UCC culture
  • Advance planned giving initiative to expand planned giving options beyond Legacy Giving via the FreeWill platform
  • Implement and optimize the annual fundraising activity plan year-over-year
  • Cultivate and manage a dynamic donor pipeline, ensuring consistent engagement and stewardship
  • Identify and map key stakeholders, allies, and market opportunities (UCC populations, corporate donors, etc.)
  • Partner with internal teams to prepare presentations and materials for donor engagement
  • Direct program management with support from marketing team members and other relevant stakeholders to ensure consistent messaging and brand positioning, while executing integrated programs and operations that effectively support fundraising goals.

Partnership Development

  • Build and maintain relationships with UCC organizations, conferences, and associations
  • Support employer organizations in innovating their fundraising strategies
  • Steward grant writing processes and contribute to proposal development
  • Coordinate with various internal and external cohorts to optimize campaign activations across shared audiences

Performance & Reporting

  • Define annual priorities, KPIs, and track progress toward income and donation goals
  • Provide regular performance reports during campaigns
  • Use data to craft compelling narratives for donor communications and proposals
  • Stay current on philanthropic trends and best practices, ensuring our programs remain cutting-edge

Qualifications

What you’ll need:

  • Proven experience in fundraising, donor relations, and grant writing
  • Demonstrated success in cultivating and managing donor pipelines
  • Strong understanding of the UCC mission and values, and ability to articulate them clearly
  • Familiarity with the UCC or general ministry needs and trends preferred
  • Proficiency in relational databases (ideally Raiser’s Edge NXT or HubSpot), Microsoft Excel, Power BI
  • Excellent analytical and storytelling skills using data
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities
  • Exceptional communication skills across internal and external audiences
  • Ability to commute regularly to our NYC office
