Position Summary
The School Nurse supports the health and well-being of students in a rural, high-need, elementary school setting. The position plays a vital role in promoting student success by providing direct health services, managing chronic conditions, and collaborating with families, staff, and community health partners to address barriers to learning related to health.
The nurse works closely with school and district teams to ensure compliance with state and federal health mandates, while providing compassionate, culturally responsive care in a community with high rates of free and reduced lunch eligibility.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
· Provide nursing services to students in grades PreK–5, including assessment, care, and documentation of illness and injury.
· Develop and maintain individualized healthcare and emergency care plans for students with chronic conditions (e.g., asthma, diabetes, allergies, seizures).
· Administer prescribed medications and maintain accurate medical records in accordance with district policy and state law.
· Monitor immunization compliance and conduct health screenings (vision, hearing, scoliosis, etc.) as required by law.
· Respond to health emergencies and provide first aid, CPR, and emergency care as needed.
· Collaborate with parents/guardians, teachers, counselors, and community health agencies to support student wellness and attendance.
· Serve as a resource for health education, hygiene, nutrition, and wellness promotion for students, staff, and families.
· Participate in student support team meetings and contribute to Individualized Education Plans (IEPs or 504 Plans as needed.
· Maintain confidentiality and adhere to all FERPA, HIPAA, and district policies regarding student records.
Support public health initiatives such as vaccination clinics, wellness campaigns, and communicable disease prevention.
Qualifications
· Education and Licensure:
· Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Arizona required.
· Bachelor’s degree in Nursing preferred.
· Current CPR and First Aid certification required.
· School Nurse Certification (if required by the state) preferred.
· Experience:
· Prior experience in pediatric, public health, or school nursing preferred.
· Experience working in a rural or economically diverse community strongly desired.
· Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
· Strong assessment and clinical judgment skills.
· Ability to communicate effectively with children, families, and staff from diverse backgrounds.
· Knowledge of child growth and development, public health principles, and community health resources.
· Organizational skills for managing medical records, health plans, and district compliance reporting.
· Compassion, cultural sensitivity, and commitment to equity in health and education.
