Description

  

The Paralegal will work directly with Counsel to assist with litigation, government inquiries, and subpoenas. The Paralegal will be responsible for investigating facts, researching laws and regulations, and preparing and maintaining legal documents. At times, the Paralegal will also assist the Executives with miscellaneous items as they come up. Organizational skills, attention to detail, and a strong work ethic are a must. Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Establish      and ensure strong processes and procedures for matter management and      knowledge management within the legal and compliance functions, including      records and electronic filing systems.
  • Disseminate,      update, and report on legal holds and open matters. Coordinate with      Information Technology Department on legal hold implementation.
  • Responsible      for managing litigation discovery requirements, including document      identification, retrieval, production, and calendaring of deadlines.
  • Oversee      registered agent activities and relationships in multiple jurisdictions      for Universal Account Servicing and affiliate entities.
  • Stay      informed on in-house legal department best practices and ensure the      company is utilizing technology to improve compliance and reduce legal      expenses.
  • Assist      compliance personnel with periodic compliance reviews and testing of      company departments and business lines.
  • Work      with General Counsel on legal department management and ownership      reporting.
  • Oversee      legal and compliance department operations including space needs,      equipment, technology, and workflow management.
  • Assist      with the development and maintenance of department manuals, documents, and      templates. Maintain legal department research subscriptions and research      tools.
  • Perform      miscellaneous administrative functions for General Counsel, including      expense reports, travel arrangements, meeting coordination and scheduling,      bar licensing and continuing education requirements.


Requirements

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in business administration, criminal justice, accounting/finance, paralegal studies or related field
  • Five years of experience in an in-house legal department or paralegal experience in a corporate law firm may be considered in lieu of education
  • Knowledge of outside counsel billing process and document management tools used by legal professionals
  • Experience in managing and organizing litigation matters and activities, including e-discovery protocols and document production
  • Experience with auditing or testing protocols
  • Self-motivated team player with ability to drive projects, identify and resolve issues, and earn the confidence and cooperation of employees and executives outside of the department
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational, management, and problem solving skills
  • Comfortable with uncertainty and change management requirements
  • Flexible approach to new projects, requirements, and workplace demands
