Position Overview:

The Director of Bids and Estimations will lead the company’s proposals, tendering, and cost estimation functions across all geospatial engineering projects. This senior role ensures the timely, accurate, and competitive preparation of bids that align with company strategy, technical capabilities, and financial objectives. The Director will oversee a multidisciplinary team responsible for bid management, proposal writing, and cost modelling, while engaging closely with business development, engineering, and project delivery teams.


What You Will Do:

Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive bidding and estimation strategy to support growth targets and market expansion.
  • Identify and prioritise high-value tender opportunities within geospatial, infrastructure, and environmental markets.
  • Lead bid/no-bid decision processes in coordination with senior management.
  • Establish standardised tools, templates, and processes for bids, tenders, and cost estimation.

Bid Management & Proposal Development

  • Oversee the end-to-end bid process from opportunity identification through submission and negotiation.
  • Coordinate technical, commercial, and legal inputs to ensure compliant and compelling proposals.
  • Ensure proposals clearly articulate value propositions, methodologies, and risk mitigations tailored to client needs.
  • Manage bid timelines, deliverables, and team assignments to meet strict submission deadlines.

Cost Estimation & Financial Control

  • Direct the preparation of detailed cost estimates, pricing models, and profitability analyses for geospatial projects.
  • Benchmark costs using historical data, market rates, and supplier quotes to ensure competitiveness.
  • Work closely with finance and operations teams to ensure bids reflect realistic delivery costs and margins.

Client & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Engage with clients, partners, and suppliers during pre-bid and post-bid phases to clarify requirements and negotiate terms.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including government agencies, contractors, and consultants.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing bids and estimations team.
  • Promote collaboration, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement within the team and across departments.



What You Will Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Geomatics, Surveying, or related discipline (Master’s preferred).
  • 10+ years of experience in bids, tenders, or cost estimation within engineering, construction, or geospatial sectors.
  • Proven track record managing large, complex bids (>€XM) for public and private sector clients.
  • Strong technical understanding of geospatial services (e.g., LiDAR, GIS, remote sensing, UAV mapping, data analytics).
  • Advanced proficiency in cost estimation software and MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a focus on clarity and persuasion.
  • Demonstrated leadership and team management experience.

Desirable:

  • Professional certification in project management (PMP, PRINCE2) or cost estimation (AACE, RICS).
  • Experience with international tendering processes (FIDIC, World Bank, etc.).
  • Familiarity with digital bid management platforms and CRM systems.
