Regional Operations – Safe working Officer (ROSO)

  • Based at Swan Hill / Echuca 
  • Weekly Regional Travel

About the role
The Operations Group is responsible for the day-to-day delivery of train and coach services across regional Victoria. The safe and efficient delivery of these services requires network planning and control and a continued focus on mechanisms to improve services and operations.

As a Regional Operations Safe working Officer, you are integral to the success of V/Line’s Operations Group.

You will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and operational efficiency of rail services across our network. You will be responsible for managing and operating signalling equipment, liaising with Train Control and ensuring safety and compliance in track access and maintenance.

On occasion you will be required to travel offsite, facilitating train movements in remote areas this may be required on a weekly basis – stretching in a large regional radius from your base location.

Key accountabilities include:

  • Operation of infield signalling equipment for train arrivals and departures.
  • Liaise with Train Control and neighbouring networks to ensure the safe operation of all rail traffic.
  • Oversee station operations including security, cleanliness and customer service.
  • Manage disruption events and coordinate effective communication for all stakeholders.
     

About you
We’re looking for proactive and detail-orientated individuals who thrive in a safety-critical environment. You will be a team player, able to adapt to changing conditions and demonstrate a strong commitment to safety and operational excellence.  
 

You will be available to operate on a 24/7 rotating roster, including weekends/ public holidays – overtime as per business requirements.  If you do not have current safe working qualifications, you will be required to successfully achieve competency.

Our ideal candidate will possess the following:

  • Ability to work effectively across a range of operational scenarios and regional locationsStrong communication skills, with a focus on safety and customer service
  • Demonstrated alignment with V/Lines values of responsiveness, integrity, impartiality, accountability, respect, leadership and human rights 
  • Valid Victorian Drivers Licence
  • Australian Or New Zealand Citizen OR hold Permanent Residency 
  • Able to commit to a 24/7 rotating roster including weekend / public holidays

Remuneration for this position will be in line with the V/Line Rail Operations and Administrative Employees Agreement 2023 or Asset Management Enterprise Agreement 2023: 

STN OFF C3; $47.7929 per hour, OR 94,439 Annually, 5 weeks - 20% Leave Loading
