Requirements
Purpose of the role:
The Shipping and Claims Coordinator will provide comprehensive administrative and operational support to the Shipping and Claims Manager. The role will involve assisting in the coordination of international shipments, handling export documentation, supporting claims processing, and ensuring effective communication with internal departments, service providers, and clients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in scheduling and tracking export shipments
- Support communication with shipping lines and freight forwarders.
- Extract and analyze data from Palbroker or similar (export system).
- Prepare and compile documentation for cargo claims.
- Maintain an accurate claim register and escalate unresolved issues
- Assist with updating shipping and container haulage rates
- Assist with Reporting Container tracking for all shipments on various platforms
- Assist in resolving day-to-day logistics issues
- Support the Logistics team in coordinating land-side activities
- Assist the Forward and Clearing agents with queries
- Assist with coordination of shipping trials and new logistics initiatives
- Support onboarding and communication with new service providers.
- Track trial shipments and escalate issues
Education:
- Matric
- Degree or National Diploma in International Trade or Supply chain management/Logistics
- Valid driver’s license
Experience:
- 2–4 years of hands-on experience in logistics/operations
- Exposure to international shipping procedures, export documentation, and marine insurance cargo claims processes will be advantage.
- Experience working with transporters, C&F agents, Cold Stores and shipping lines is preferred
- Understanding of international shipping processes
- Understanding of export documentation and compliance requirements
- Knowledge of logistics service providers
- Understand the South African shipping environment and challenges.
