 Library Supervisor

East Elementary
4.5 hours/day  (22.5 hours/week)
School Year – Student Days

SUMMARY
:  Work to promote the mission of the library in providing learners and educators with equitable access to information, ideas, learning/teaching tools, and to develop expertise in locating evaluating and using these resources.  Provide a well-organized, smoothly functioning library media center.  Provide an environment in which staff and students can take full advantage of the available resources.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associates degree or two years of college (60 semester hours) from approved institution of higher education or confirmation of passing the MTTC basic skills test.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as procedural manuals.
  • Must possess good oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to calculate mathematical figures.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written and/or oral form.
  • Ability to problem solve.
  • Ability to set priorities.
  • Must show a positive attitude and willingness to help others.
  • Must show flexibility with a variety of daily tasks and interruptions.
  • Ability to prioritize issues and respond professionally and appropriately using sound judgment.
  • Must be able to stoop, bend at the knees, kneel, work on the floor and life up to ten pounds.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES (other duties may be assigned):

  • Plan and lead weekly library time with students of different ages including selecting stories, discussing books, and more.
  • Enthusiastically promote a love of reading with students and staff
  • Provide reference services for students and staff.
  • Assist individual students in researching topics for assignments and projects.
  • Create a welcoming, efficient and structured learning environment in the library.
  • Proficient with available technologies and resources.
  • Examine new materials and direct materials of special interest to staff and students.
  • Maintain and update the library.
  • Supervise the circulation of library materials.
  • Assist with technology in the library.
  • Provide access to materials by scheduling classes and encouraging use of the library.
  • Retrieve overdue materials and process billing and deposits if needed.
  • Maintain and improve skills through participation in library supervisor meetings.
  • Purchase materials and compile book orders using the library budget funds, bookfair funds and/or PTC funds.
  • Maintain a balanced budget using approved funds.
  • Schedule and supervise the book fair.
  • Repair worn library materials.
  • Recruit, schedule and train volunteers to assist in the daily activities of the library.
  • Be available for DIBELS testing each year as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • The employee will sometimes push/pull items.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • The employee must be able to stoop, bend at the knees, kneel and work on the floor.
  • The employee may physically restrain students in accordance with Board Policy and if the employee has received the appropriate training.
  • The employee must be able to assist students with standing, transferring and walking.
