Field Service Technician
Field Service Technician Position Summary
This role will be filled by an someone living in Iowa, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Missouri, or Arkansas. Big Dutchman is looking for a Field Service Technician to be the front-line expert supporting our customers with the installation, training, and service of our world-class poultry and livestock equipment. This is a hands-on, customer-facing role where you’ll combine technical skill with problem-solving and leadership to ensure every project runs smoothly and every customer feels confident in their investment. As the on-site representative of Big Dutchman, you’ll play a key role in shaping the customer experience, driving operational excellence, and helping farmers around the world feed communities more efficiently and sustainably.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Deliver hands-on training to installation crew leads on equipment assembly techniques and safety practices.
- Guide site organization and promote best practices for efficient and quality-focused assembly processes.
- Conduct routine inspections during equipment assembly to ensure compliance with specifications; document and report any discrepancies.
- Support parts identification and manage issues related to shortages, overages, and shipment verifications.
- Serve as the on-site liaison between customers, contractors, Big Dutchman, and project managers—acting as a representative of Big Dutchman’s values and standards.
- Maintain consistent communication with the main office to report site issues, service challenges, and project updates.
- Submit detailed weekly service reports outlining completed work and on-site findings; upload documentation into the company CRM system.
- Install, inspect, troubleshoot, and repair systems in the field post-sale to ensure continued customer satisfaction.
- Coordinate third-party installation crews for repair and rework projects, ensuring quality and timeliness.
- Propose improvements to assembly procedures aimed at reducing warranty claims and enhancing customer satisfaction.
- Provide on-site training to farm personnel on proper operation and maintenance of equipment.
- Conduct follow-up site visits to verify system performance and proactively address potential issues.
- Deliver responsive, high-quality technical support and field service after project completion.
- Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications and Skills
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally and diplomatically with customers, both verbally and in writing.
- Strong technical aptitude, with working knowledge of both electrical and mechanical systems.
- A willingness to work irregular hours, including weekends, to meet customer and project needs.
- Proficient with standard PC software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and email platforms.
- Capable of capturing and transmitting digital images using email or mobile devices for documentation and troubleshooting purposes.
- Preferred: 3–5 years of service experience in the poultry or livestock equipment industry.
