General funds, to begin approximately January 2026, pending availability of funds and actual staffing requirements. This assignment may include teaching on- and off-campus, day or evening classes, weekend classes, and distance education assignments using multiple teaching methodologies; and travel between Hilo, West Hawaii, and other off-site locations.  Position may be converted from 11 to 9 months or 9 to 11 months based on operational needs.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Under general supervision, coordinate the Nursing Learning Resource Center (NRLC) in Hilo including maintaining inventory and develop, organize and teach courses as assigned.
  2. Assists with repair, maintenance and purchasing of equipment, supplies and learning resources.
  3. Assures compliance with safety rules and regulations.
  4. Coordinates with clinical sites regarding entry requirements; communicate requirements to faculty and students; collect, track and submit health clearances and any other compliance documentation to clinical partners. 
  5. Works closely with faculty to instruct students through supervision of skills practice, high fidelity patient simulations, computer mediated instruction, and the presentations.
  6. Supports nursing students’ needs such as tutoring and skills based practice.
  7. Tracks NLRC usage and obtain student feedback.
  8. Assists with student recruitment and related work as assigned.
  9. Related work activities include, but are not limited to:
    • Maintaining office hours, in person, for academic advising of students. 
    • Assisting in campus-related student activities. 
    • Participating in department, college and community services  including but not limited to committee and recruitment activities as appropriate. 
  10. Prepares, revises and assesses course objectives and student learning outcomes at the course, program, and college levels.
  11. Develops and maintains a program of professional self-development activities.
  12. Assists with/participates in campus related activities and in-service training.
  13. Engages in public service and professional/scholarly activities related to the profession. 
  14. Demonstrated commitment to community college mission.
  15. Maintains current certifications if applicable.
  16. Perform other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Master’s Degree in Nursing with at least one (1) year of hospital experience in their area(s) of teaching responsibility. (Preferably this experience will have been gained within the last five (5) years of date of application.)
  2. Registered nurse eligible for Hawai’i State License. License required by effective date of employment.
  3. If qualified applicants are not available, others will be considered on an acting instructor basis.


Desirable Qualification:

  1. Education in curriculum development, evaluation, or teaching methods, or related experience in the above.
  2. Evidence of successful teaching of nursing in a college setting.
  3. Demonstrated ability to work with community college students.
  4. Ability to employ critical thinking as part of the learning experience.
  5. Experience with patient simulations.
  6. Experience with computer mediated instruction.
  7. Clinical currency in area of expertise.
  8. Demonstrated commitment and/or experience supporting the success of students.
