This position is responsible for developing strategic plans that focus on safety and quality improvement initiatives in collaboration with UCHealth’s Chief Clinical Officer and other administrative and clinical leaders within the UCHealth system. 

This position reports directly to the Chief Clinical Officer and will work collaboratively with this leader to achieve network-wide quality, patient and staff safety, and infection prevention goals and drive improvements to improve the key metrics in these areas. This position measures and evaluates the state of quality delivery across the organization and recommends current and future quality and safety initiatives to continually improve. In addition, this position will be responsible for implementing and maintaining a quality and safety infrastructure for UC Health. 

Responsibilities

System Safety:

Leads and continually improves the delivery, depth, and breadth of Enterprise Safety throughout UCHealth and supports organizational initiatives, including:

Enterprise Safety Program including effective use of Root Cause Analysis (RCA) processes 

Safety Trend Analyses using HPI Methodology

Creating a Culture of Safety

Infection prevention monitoring, reduction and improvement

Supports the safety needs of the Clinical Domains and responsive to the needs of site and operational leaders.

Assists business units in understanding their safety performance and addresses gaps against the desired performance. 

Works collaboratively with the executive leadership of UC Health to execute strategic objectives toward achieving regional and national leader performance.

Utilize leadership and operational expertise to apply safety improvement initiatives utilizing evidence-based practice, literature, and statistical processes to facilitate the operationalization of the organization’s safety goals.

Work to further improve systems of care delivery, minimize errors and eliminate preventable harm and monitor Individuals’ safety through the development and use of data acquisition, and scorecard development

Accountable for communicating regularly with executive sponsors, team leaders, process owners, and other stakeholders about team progress toward goal achievement, critical factors, and obstacles.

Accountable for establishing effective working relationships and communications with key executive and senior-level business and clinical leaders to position process improvement work.

Coordinates activities in various areas/departments to reduce duplication of efforts - contribute to and play an active role in UC Health’s quality efforts to align strategic priorities, interventions, and standard work to harmonize system-wide approaches at UC Health and COM where appropriate.

Quality and Quality Assurance:

Assess current hospital and clinical departmental performance on quality-of-care indicators; regularly perform gap analyses and recommend focused improvement initiatives to ensure exceptional hospital performance on those indicators.

Assists business units in understanding their quality performance and addresses gaps against the desired performance. 

Work to further improve systems of care delivery, minimize errors and eliminate preventable harm and monitor Individuals’ safety through the development and use of data acquisition, and scorecard development

Supports the quality needs of the Clinical Domains and responsive to the needs of site and operational leaders.

Utilize leadership and operational expertise, knowledge and application of multiple quality improvement frameworks, evidence-based practice, quality literature, and statistical processes to facilitate the operationalization of the organization’s quality goals.

Updates and proposes dashboard metrics and goals for the quality panel to assure the continual improvement of quality performance across the organization. 

Physician Dyads and Team Development:

Directs, develops, and builds teams with a balanced set of quality and safety improvement.

Prioritizes resources against projects and workload while effectively managing stakeholder expectations.

Directly manage department operations, including all human resource and budget- related functions. 

Review safety events and participate in root cause analysis; ensure proper execution of safety huddles and rounds

Model accountability culture principles that are fair, transparent and learning oriented. 

Qualifications

Minimum Required: Bachelor Degree. Preferred: Master Degree. | Minimum Required: 7 - 10 Years equivalent experience with Healthcare quality and safety oversight and leadership. Previous experience as an RN, Pharmacist, MD or other clinical experience is preferred.

Comprehensive understanding of quality assessment, Infection control and patient safety

Quality experience in academic healthcare setting (including hospital) is highly preferred.

Facility with quality improvement tools and techniques (PDSA, Lean Thinking, Six Sigma, robust process improvement, etc.).

Experience in achieving results and a documented track record of implementing and accomplishing quality/safety improvements in a large, complex hospital.

Change Management: Balance of an analytical mindset and a high EQ (emotional quotient) to lead people and drive the change that is required to create this data-driven culture.
