POSITION SUMMARY:
The Alumni and Student Engagement Coordinator serves as a vital liaison betweenthe Mary Pappert School of Music, its alumni, and current students. This rolestrengthens alumni engagement through relationship-building, storytelling,event participation, and donor cultivation, while also providing essentialsupport services to enrolled students. Additionally, the position coordinatesstudent funding opportunities and contributes to the planning and execution ofkey School of Music events.
DUTIES ANDRESPONSIBILITIES:
AlumniEngagement
Build andmaintain a strong network of alumni connections to foster lifelong engagementwith the School of Music.
Coordinate theSchool of Music Alumni Advisory Council and cultivate relationships withgraduates to promote new membership.
Collect and shareprofessional highlights, achievements, and stories of current students as wellas graduates of promotional and advancement purposes.
Partner withfaculty and staff to involve alumni in concerts, receptions, anduniversity-wide events such as Homecoming, DUQ Days, and Christmas at Duquesne.
Assist schoolleadership and staff with alumni-focused aspects of concert planning,fundraising, community engagement, and communications.
Collaborate withUniversity Advancement staff to support fundraising initiatives, cultivatingalumni as potential donors, sponsors, and advocates for the School of Music.
AdministrativeCoordination
Administer theSchool of Music micro-grant program and manage the allocation of endowedfunding for student academic and professional expenses.
Provide the MusicStudent Success Coach with administrative support during periods of high demandwithin each semester, such as course registration.
Support the Hire-a-Musicianprogram by updating artists profiles on the school website, collecting andvetting new memberships, and maintaining database accuracy.
Collaborate withschool leadership and staff to plan and execute School of Music events,including but not limited to orientation, open houses, receptions, and more.
StudentSupport Services
Support musiceducation and music therapy students in obtaining required clearances.
Managestudent-teacher placements and maintain the cooperating-teacher database.
Additional dutiesrelated to the music education program, as assigned, including serving as aliaison between the School of Music and the School of Education.
Serve as a pointof contact for school specific student service needs.
Travel requiredfor position (approximately 10% of the time).
Completes other duties as assigned.
Minimumqualifications:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and 1-3 years of work-relatedexperience.
Current PADriver’s license in good standing.
Preferredqualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in music, arts administration, higher education or relatedfield from an accredited institution.
Experience inalumni relations, fundraising, student services, or event coordination stronglypreferred.
Higher EdExperience
Work in artsadministration or in an arts related organization
Alternately, the successful candidate may possess any equivalent combination ofexperience and training, which provides the knowledge, skills and abilitiesrequired to perform the essential job functions. This includes, but is notlimited to, the following:
Familiarity with music or performing arts education strongly preferred.
Excellentorganizational, communication, and relationship-building skills.
Proven ability tocontinuously learn and integrate new technologies that support evolving institutionalneeds.
Ability to managemultiple projects simultaneously with attention to detail.
Demonstratedcommitment to respect, inclusivity, teamwork, and understanding.
Ability toestablish and maintain effective working relationships with the UniversityCommunity.
