About the Department
In this role, the candidate will promote ACPL’s mission and values while adhering to established policies and procedures. The purpose of this position is to support the informational, reference, and reading needs of library patrons of all ages and to perform any routine tasks necessary for the operation of the library system. This position reports to the Branch Manager and is a full-time, 40-hour-per-week, benefited role that requires one evening shift per week as well as participation in a weekend rotation. Must be able to work flexible schedules.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to providing customer-focused service that supports a positive library experience and will interact tactfully and courteously with a wide range of diverse patrons and community members.
Position Duties
- Perform regular public service duties, including staffing all service desks.
- Troubleshoot minor technology-related issues and keep management informed.
- Take responsibility for the overall appearance of the library and the condition of shelves.
- Create eye-catching displays to increase circulation and promote programs.
- Create or maintain reading lists for reader’s advisory.
- Assist with maintenance and weeding of the library collection.
- Maintain donations and the donation area.
- Assist in supervising part-time circulation staff in the absence of the Public Service Manager.
- Maintain the library collection with an emphasis on damaged materials and repairs.
- Increase skills and knowledge through professional reading, workshops, and webinars.
- Demonstrate a willingness to learn about local community events and current trends in libraries.
- Update and assist with the maintenance of LibGuide Reader Advisory resources and LibCal management in the absence of the Public Service Manager.
- Plan and implement 4–5 programs each month.
- Assist with monthly program and database promotion through digital displays and basic graphic design.
Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum of some college coursework required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- One -Two (1-2) years of library, education, customer service, or related experience preferred.
- Experience working with diverse populations in community-facing roles strongly preferred.
- Bilingual (Spanish) is preferred

- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, email, internet searching, and social media platforms.
- Ability to learn and apply library-specific technology, including ILS systems and electronic resources.
- Creativity in program planning, display design, and patron engagement.
- Strong problem-solving skills, sound judgment, and accountability.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
