About the job

 

Lay out, fit, and fabricate metal components to assemble structural forms, such as machinery frames, piping systems, tanks and pressure vessels, using knowledge of welding techniques, metallurgy, and engineering requirements. Weld metal parts, using electric, gas arc, or other welding equipment as specified by layout, welding diagram, or work order. Examines weld for bead size and other specifications. Repairs broken or cracked metal objects, fills holes, and builds up metal parts. May chip or grind off excess weld, slag, or spatter. General repairs to plant equipment.

 

 

In your future role as Maintenance Mechanic, you will  

 

  • Observing, receiving, and otherwise obtaining information from all relevant sources
  • Inspecting equipment, structures, or materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects.
  • Identifying information by categorizing, estimating, recognizing differences or similarities, and detecting changes in circumstances or events.
  • Lays out, positions and secures parts and assemblies according to specification
  • Tack-welds or welds components and assemblies, using electric, gas, are, or other welding equipment.
  • Cuts work piece, using powered saws, grinders, gas torch, carbon arc, plasma torch and other cutting tools. • Installs and repairs other plant equipment.
  • Repair to piping systems, including gasket and fitting replacement.
  • Fabricate and repair of plant equipment.

Skills, Education, and Certification Requirements

 

  • High school graduate or GED.
  • Welder 6G Certification (mandatory).
  • Minimum five years of experience in all phases of welding, including welding various shapes in multiple positions.
  • Experience working with a variety of materials.
  • Ability to read and interpret design drawings.
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their design, use, repair, and maintenance.
  • Understanding of design techniques, tools, and principles used in creating precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
  • Knowledge of materials, methods, and tools used in the construction or repair of buildings or other structures.
  • Understanding of the practical application of engineering science and technology, including principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment used in design and production.
  • Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for optimizing manufacturing and distribution.
  • Ability to determine the type of tools and equipment needed for a job.
  • Experience in testing and inspecting products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance.
  • Skill in performing routine maintenance and determining maintenance needs.
  • Ability to repair machines or systems using appropriate tools.
  • Proficiency in controlling operations of equipment or systems.
  • Experience in installing equipment, machines, wiring, or programs to meet specifications.
  • Ability to apply mathematics to solve technical problems.
  • Strong reading comprehension for understanding technical information and written instructions.

 

Physical Requirements

 

  • Ability to keep hand and arm steady while performing tasks.
  • Ability to quickly move hands and arms to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects.
  • Strong close-range vision for detailed work.
  • Physical flexibility to bend, stretch, twist, or reach with body, arms, and/or legs.
  • Ability to perform fast, repetitive movements with fingers, hands, and wrists.
  • Coordination of two or more limbs (e.g., arms and legs) while sitting, standing, or lying down.
  • Ability to adjust machine or vehicle controls precisely and repeatedly.
  • Skilled in handling, installing, positioning, and moving materials manually.
  • Ability to operate machinery or processes through physical activity or control mechanisms (excluding computers and vehicles).
  • Capability to perform physically demanding activities such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials.
