Job Title: Production Supervisor
Immediate Supervisor: Plant Manager
Summary: The Production Supervisor is responsible for supervising the day-to-day functions of the production departments including Intake, HTST, Cheesemaking, Production, RO, Packaging & any other areas that come up as needed to make the facility run efficiently. The position is expected to work hand in hand with the production teams on the floor daily.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Hire, train and manage production staff to ensure that receiving, production and shipping processes are continuously reviewed for efficiency improvement.
- Ensure that all sanitation activities are completed in the production areas, including equipment inspections and equipment teardowns.
- Monitor chemical and cleaning supply inventories and complete necessary paperwork.
- Assist with preparation for plant inspections.
- Manage staff to assure that production start-up is in a ready state. This includes staging production supplies, monitoring schedules, staffing and all tasks associated with start-up.
- Assist with the management of the raw milk receiving operation including staff scheduling, monitoring equipment to ensure compliance and conduct staff training as necessary.
- Participate in overall plant management by working directly with members of management throughout all departments within the plant to ensure quality, efficiency and customer service.
- Counsel and discipline employees as appropriate.
- Maintains working knowledge and skill in operating equipment utilized under their supervision.
- Assures compliance with established quality and sanitary standards and takes corrective action concerning deficiencies.
- Critically evaluates all work rules and regulations and takes corrective action regarding any potential safety hazard.
- Exercises good judgment and discretion in the use and care of company assets under his/her supervision.
- Assist with employee complaints and resolve personal issues between workers.
- Inspect all equipment to ensure proper operation and safety.
- Follow operational procedures and complete required paperwork.
- Follow GMP’s (Good Manufacturing Practices), quality control, cleaning and sanitation procedures.
- Assist in any other areas of the manufacturing plant when necessary.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Must have 3 or more years of related supervisory experience or 5 years of floor experience.
- Must have solid working knowledge of cheese plant production and sanitation processes.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written)
- Must be able to work with team members at all levels within the organization.
- Prefer fundamental skills with Microsoft Office applications.
- Must be willing to work flexible hours as required.
- Must be able to verbally communicate, understand and write in the English language.
Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit, stand or walk for prolonged periods of time. The employee is required to use hands and fingers to operate, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls and reach with hands and arms on a repetitive basis. The employee must be able to push, pull, and move up to 100 pounds. The employee must be able to physically lift up to 50 pounds. Requires visual acuity to review written documentations; ability to hear and understand speech. There is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level. There is exposure to a variety of physical conditions such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, and exposure to heat/cold temperature changes.
