Position Summary:

The Lead Brake Press Operator is responsible for the setup, operation, and oversight of brake press equipment used in the fabrication of custom architectural metal products. This position ensures precision, quality, and efficiency in all forming operations, while also leading and mentoring team members in the fabrication area.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Set up and operate manual brake press machines to bend, form, and fabricate sheet metal components to exact specifications.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and work orders to ensure accuracy and conformance to project requirements.
  • Lead and coordinate daily work activities of the brake press team, ensuring efficient workflow and adherence to production schedules.
  • Inspect materials and finished parts using measuring tools (calipers, protractors, tape measures, etc.) to maintain tight tolerances.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve machine, tooling, or material issues to minimize downtime.
  • Train and mentor junior operators and assist in developing their technical skills and safety awareness.
  • Maintain equipment by performing regular cleaning, inspection, and minor preventive maintenance.
  • Collaborate with fabrication, welding, and quality control teams to ensure seamless production.
  • Uphold company safety standards, policies, and procedures in all work activities.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: Minimum 6 months of experience operating brake press equipment at Architectural Systems, Inc.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficient in reading blueprints and interpreting fabrication drawings.
    • Strong understanding of material properties (stainless steel, aluminum, galvanized steel, etc.).
    • Ability to perform precise measurements and quality checks.
    • Familiarity with CNC programming or machine setup a plus.
  • Physical Requirements:
    • Able to lift up to 50 lbs. and stand for extended periods.
    • Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment with varying temperatures and noise levels.
  • Other: Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills required.
