POSITION SUMMARY:

Provides patient care services in the back office medical setting, which will meet the specific needs of the patient within the state legislative and Board of Nursing rules. As a licensed professional, the RN is held accountable to be knowledgeable and operate within their scope of practice. RNs must adhere to the employer's written policy and procedures, provided the essential functions outlined in this job description are within the RN's state scope of practice.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Performs the essential functions as defined as appropriate by the RN Board of Nursing Scope of Practice and Company Competency Skills Checklist.

  • Interprets and demonstrates compliance with established policies and procedures, objectives, safety, environmental, and infection control standards. Implements consistently Center for Disease Control and Prevention infection control standards throughout patient care and other job duties.

  • Participates in developing, maintaining, and implementing the facility's quality assurance programs.

  • Maintains knowledge of and complies with work-appropriate aspects of the environment of care programs and the organization's standards to assure regulatory requirements are met; examples include but are not limited to OSHA, State, and Federal requirements.

  • Complies with the personal protective equipment policy necessary to protect from exposure to bloodborne pathogens, infectious disease, and other hazardous substances.

  • Observes, assesses, and communicates changes in the patient's condition to the provider on duty. Documents patient assessment findings and physical/psychosocial responses to nursing interventions.

  • Delivers care with appropriate age and cultural competence to specific patient populations according to individualized needs.

  • Ability to provide emotional support with compassion and respect for the individual.

  • Assists the provider with exams, procedures, and other processes related to direct patient care under direct supervision.

  • Participates in the completion of the emergency equipment daily checklist and any assigned duties and tasks necessary to maintain compliance with Federal and State regulations.

  • Participates in education programs and attends meetings as required.

  • Follows and complies with standing orders policy; recognizes when the provider is necessary based on patient presentation and policy guidance.

  • Follows guidelines of laboratory and clinical accreditation policies.

  • Obtains laboratory specimens and performs venipuncture when necessary.

  • Administers medications per policy and adheres to all safety protocols and procedures for medication administration.

  • Initiates and monitors intravenous (IV) infusions at the provider's order.

  • Communicates patient results and provides patient education when appropriate.

  • Notifies the provider promptly of all unusual patient occurrences, including medication events and documents on an incident report.

  • Promptly notifies the Clinic Manager of patient or employee safety concerns.

  • Maintain a level of professional development through continuing education, quality improvement initiatives, and sharing of knowledge.

  • Maintains confidentiality of all patient information and follows HIPPA regulations unless obligated by law to disclose the information.

  • Provides support and guidance to the members of the care team (teamwork) and facilitates collaborative partnerships.

  • Works independently within their scope of practice to achieve clinical outcomes.

  • Identifies and reports adverse drug reactions to the provider promptly.

  • Recognizes, responds delegates, and assists with the immediate management appropriate to urgent and emergent patient care situations.

  • Promotes and role models collaborative practice and relationships with other healthcare professionals by focusing on patient needs, status, outcomes, and prioritizing patient-care tasks.

  • Takes a leadership role, prioritizes and delegates patient care tasks to all back-office team members (e.g., licensed and unlicensed) while building and maintaining an environment that fosters open communication, efficient and patient-centered care, and collegial relationships. Assesses the overall clinic process flow, incoming patient volume, patient acuity level, and pending patient care duties throughout the shift.

  • Collaborates with the provider and clinic manager and ensures they are apprised of all critical areas of patient care, employee safety, facility needs and equipment, and supply deficiencies and maintenance needs.

  • Serves as a mentor and resource to educate other staff. Facilitates training to other back-office staff and completes competency checklist verifications as requested or required.

  • Demonstrates positive and constructive interpersonal relations in dealing with others, recognizing cultural diversity, including patients and families, employees, management team, medical staff, and community members to maximize productivity and positive relations.

  • Maintains current competency in nursing by attending educational workshops; reviewing and professional publications as required by the Board of Nursing

  • Maintains RN Licensure and Basic Life Support (BLS) credentials current.

  • Treats patients and co-workers consistent with the NextCare Mission Statement, Vision, Values, and Performance Standards.

  • All duties and requirements must be performed consistent with the RN's scope of practice and as described by Company policy.

 

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

Education:

  1. Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent; and

  2. Graduation from a state approved registered nurse course curriculum;

    1. Associate Degree in Nursing

    2. Bachelors of Science Degree in Nursing

    3. RN Diploma from a hospital-based RN course

Credentials:

Registered Nurse Licensure verified by the State Board of Nursing

CPR Certification (applies to all states employed):

Current healthcare professional level BLS certification issued by American Heart Association, American Red Cross, American Safety Health Institute or National Safety Council.

 

VALUED BUT NOT REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

Experience: Prior recent experience in an emergency department, urgent care or other clinical setting.
