Licensed Practical Nurse - Nurse Liaison

Role and Responsibilities

  • To act as a patient advocate, providing continuity of care designed to meet individual patient needs through collaboration with other members of the health care team at the facility.
  • This position is responsible for performing a variety of duties including, but not limited to, patient and visitor communication, COVID testing, order entry, direct patient care, and clerical duties.
  • Greets patients and families with a positive and welcoming attitude.
  • Works to put patients and families at ease during their time at Manhattan Surgical Hospital
  • Provides communication between the business office department, the clinical departments, patients, and visitors.
  • Provides pertinent information to the patient’s family in the waiting area according to policies and procedures
  • Accepts and relays messages effectively; transports patients and families as needed to private conference rooms
  • Identifies emergencies and initiates appropriate response.
  • Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates nursing care in accordance with hospital policy/procedure and with departmental, area and national standards.
  • Ensures a safe supportive environment for staff, medical staff, and patients.
  • Participates in thorough orientation of employees, in-service education, and staff development to maximize productivity and minimize turnover.
  • Demonstrates effective interpersonal communication skills with all staff regarding departmental operation, practices, medical-legal and patient care issues.
  • Responsible for attendance and punctuality to ensure efficient and cost-effective operations of the department. Uses budgeted supplies and equipment judiciously.
  • Assumes responsibility for keeping current with department organizational trends and customer needs through active participation in activities designed to enhance skills, professional and personal growth.
  • Demonstrates computer skills which include accessing various computer programs and correctly inputting data into the appropriate program.
  • Maintains nursing licensure, BLS certification.
  • Treats all patients equally in accordance with Patient Rights.
  • Acts on behalf of the patient advocate.
  • Reviews and carries out physician orders in an appropriate professional manner.
  • Collects patient COVID history information, vaccination status, and performs COVID testing for patients, staff, and medical staff when needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Works under RN on shift, asks advice and discusses patient problems to provide best care.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Licensed Practical Nurse with IV Certification in the State of Kansas
  • Current BLS certification
  • Demonstrate ability to stand and/or walk at least five hours per day
  • Demonstrates ability to lift and/or carry over 20 pounds on a regular basis
  • Demonstrates ability to push/pull over 25 pounds on a regular basis.

Occupational Exposure

- Category I exposure to blood borne pathogens, frequent exposure to chemical hazards and may encounter radiation hazards.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Licensed as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of Kansas, IV Certification required.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Demonstrate ability to stand and/or walk at least five hours per day
  • Demonstrates ability to lift and/or carry over 20 pounds on a regular basis
  • Demonstrates ability to push/pull over 25 pounds on a regular basis.
