Description

DC Bilingual is recruiting a Special Education (SPED) Paraprofessional to work with students with special needs or who are receiving interventions for the SY 2025 - 2026. The SPED Paraprofessional is the individual who provides support in a general education classroom setting, a self-contained classroom setting, or both to individual students. This individual must have the flexibility to adapt to the different needs of various classrooms and students.

DCB is seeking motivated staff who are committed to the school’s mission and will bring professionalism, urgency, and dedication to the school environment. Individuals must be willing to receive training and support as directed by special education teachers and related service providers.

All staff are expected to work collaboratively within our professional learning community (PLC).

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide 1:1 support to a student with special needs
  • Implement a behavior intervention plan (BIP) with fidelity
  • Set high expectations and provide rigorous instruction to students by creating a safe, nurturing, and intellectually challenging learning environment and by applying the DCB content curriculum, school-wide instructional strategies, non-negotiables, and best practices.
  • Provide support within a general education classroom. Implement curriculum under the guidance of the classroom teacher.
  • Support the development and implementation of student Individualized Education Plan (IEP)
  • Assist the classroom teacher in formally and informally assessing student progress using standards, formative, summative and if necessary alternative assessments and analyze the data daily, weekly, and quarterly using school-wide data trackers to drive instructional decisions
  • Provide support to the classroom teacher to complete individual student progress reports and conduct individual parent-teacher conferences every quarter and additionally as needed
  • Ensure appropriate accommodations are implemented in the curriculum, lessons, and learning environment
  • Participate in IEP meetings, update report cards/progress reports in Special Programs when appropriate, and be familiar with understanding IEP goals
  • Participate in ongoing professional development, including various modalities of coaching; receive and provide critical feedback and implement all learning in the classroom; participate in grade-level team meetings and student-focused meetings
  • Promote family engagement by developing a partnership with caretakers through ongoing positive communication, home visits and other activities that encourage active participation in student learning
  • Adhere to the No Nonsense Nurture expectations for managing student relations and behaviors
  • Meet all expectations as outlined by the DC Bilingual Leading and Learning Framework
  • Abide by the DC Bilingual 7 Agreement
  • Demonstrate dedication to the Professional Learning Community (PLC) by supporting school-wide initiatives and programs
  • Other duties as assigned

 

SUPERVISORY REQUIREMENTS

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Qualifications


Job Qualifications

  • Associate’s Degree or Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential
  • Passing score on the ParaPro Praxis exam preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to work with students and families from diverse backgrounds
  • Two or more years of special education experience (preferably in an urban or culturally diverse setting
