Position Title: Adult Education High School Equivalency (GED®) Teacher (PM)

Reports to: Director of Adult and Family Education
Assignment: Tuesdays and Wednesdays 5:30 to 8:45 PM, plus plan and student engagement time.
Approximately 9.5 hours per week.
Evaluation: Performance of this position will be evaluated annually
Hourly Rate: Starts at $19.37 and is based on related job experience and education
Crete Public Schools has an opening for an evening High School Equivalency (GED® preparation) Teacher to work with adult learners who are:
- Improving skills in reading, writing, and math in order to complete the GED® exams.
- Mastering material from the GED®’s four content areas: Reading & Language Arts (RLA), Science, Social Studies, and Mathematics
- Wanting to transition to better career and educational opportunities
Essential Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred, but not required
- Teaching certificate not required but teaching experience preferred
- Strong oral and written communication ability

Job Tasks:
- Teach PM GED® preparation classes
- Set clear objectives and communicate to students
- Adapt methods to suit diverse needs
- Evaluate and guide student progress
- Plan varied instructional activities
- Employ different teaching techniques
- Direct and collaborate with volunteers
- Maintain and submit accurate student records
- Organize classroom materials
- Provide instruction in core subjects- RLA, Math, Science, Social Studies
- Provide remedial instruction in basic skills such as reading comprehension and math computation
- Utilize technology for in-class, remote, and distance learning
- Monitor assignment completion
- Establish and enforce classroom rules
- Prepare students for future educational or career opportunities
- Provide academic advising to students and help them develop transition plans when finished with the program
- Attend appropriate professional development as required (virtual and in-person)
