About the Department

This is advanced, highly responsible administrative work coordinating a variety of functions in the Community Development Department. The incumbent is expected to manage programs, functions, and/or services under the direct or indirect supervision of a higher-level administrator. Work involves assisting a Department Director or designee(s) in the performance of diversified administrative duties in helping to formulate, develop and implement a wide variety of programs and functions, as assigned. Duties include but are not limited to coordinate Pre-Application coordination, application intake, identifying sufficiency of submittals, coordinate meetings, generate reports, zoning permit review, miscellaneous application review and processing, zoning verification letters, zoning site inspections, grant writing and management, and support staff.  

ADA REQUIREMENTS:  Individual’s sensory modalities (vision and hearing) and physical capabilities (ambulation, strength, coordination, dexterity, range of motion) must be sufficient to perform the Essential Functions of the position.

Position Duties

  • Permit Review
  • Pre-application and application intake review and fee calculation
  • Zoning inspections
  • Miscellaneous application review and processing
  • Planner on call
  • Coordinating public notices for site plan applications
  • Processing minor zoning, variance, and admin site applications
  • GIS mapping
  • Drafting zoning verification letters
  • Planning  & Zoning research for senior level planners and management
  • Writes and manages grants

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in planning or a related degree with 1 year plus of municipal government or equivalent experience.  
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license with satisfactory driving record held throughout employment.

  • Multi-lingual (recommend, but not required)
  • Considerable ability to analyze a variety of administrative problems and to make sound recommendations and establish working procedures for their solution.
  • Ability to interpret rules, regulations and policies, and to make decisions in accordance with established procedures.
  • Ability to maintain and keep records, and to prepare reports from such records.
  • Excellent organizational and reporting skills.
  • Ability to carry out specific oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees, the public and representatives of other agencies, often under complex and stressful situations.
  • Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through personal contact, the use of the telephone and/or other City-issued technology devices. Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach and twist under desks and around furniture; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull moderate to heavy amounts of weight up to 20 lbs.; to operate office equipment requiring, measuring wheel repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; and to verbally communicate to exchange information.
