Description
The Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations across all trade divisions, including HVAC, electrical, and plumbing installation and service delivery, and overall efficiency of the divisions within the company. This role ensures projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality and safety standards. The Operations Manager will lead a team of technicians, project managers, and administrative staff to drive operational excellence, customer satisfaction, and profitability and will collaborate with the executive team to implement processes that improve efficiency, enhance customer experience, and support continued company growth.
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
Operations Management:
- Oversee daily division operations, including installation, maintenance, and repair services.
- Develop and implement operational policies, procedures, and best practices to enhance efficiency and productivity.
- Enforce Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and safety policies across all divisions.
- Manage scheduling, workflow, and project execution to meet client expectations and company goals.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as company policies and safety standards.
- Monitor inventory, equipment, and materials, ensuring cost-effective procurement and maintenance.
- Lead, coach, and develop field leadership teams and technicians across HVAC, electrical, and plumbing divisions.
- Oversee scheduling, job coordination, and dispatching to ensure efficient use of labor and resources.
- Ensure all work meets company quality standards and customer satisfaction expectations.
- Partner with sales, warehouse, and customer service departments to ensure seamless project execution.
- Review project pipelines and backlog with division managers to ensure schedule adherence and resource planning.
- Drive accountability through clear performance metrics, reporting, and regular operational reviews.
- Promote a culture of teamwork, professionalism, and continuous improvement.
Financial & Business Management:
- Monitor department financial performance, job costing, and productivity metrics to meet revenue and margin goals.
- Develop and manage budgets for MEP operations, optimizing costs while maintaining service quality.
- Track and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) to improve efficiency and profitability.
- Work with senior management to develop strategies for revenue growth and market expansion.
- Oversee job costing, invoicing, and profitability analysis to ensure financial health of the division.
Cost Estimation & Analysis:
- Analyze blueprints, technical drawings, and project specifications to prepare accurate cost estimates.
- Research and determine the costs of labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor services.
- Develop detailed and itemized bid proposals for projects.
- Assess risks and provide recommendations to minimize cost overruns.
Team Leadership & Development:
- Recruit, train, and mentor technicians, service coordinators, and administrative staff.
- Foster a culture of accountability, continuous learning, and professional growth within the team.
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide coaching to ensure high standards of service.
- Promote workplace safety and enforce adherence to OSHA and other industry safety guidelines.
Customer Relations & Service Quality:
- Maintain strong relationships with customers, ensuring satisfaction and repeat business.
- Address customer complaints and service issues promptly, implementing corrective actions as needed.
- Work with sales and marketing teams to identify new business opportunities and expand client base.
- Ensure high-quality service delivery and adherence to contract specifications.
Technology & Innovation:
- Implement and optimize software systems for scheduling, dispatching, and job tracking.
- Stay updated on industry trends, emerging MEP technologies, and best practices to enhance service offerings.
- Introduce energy-efficient and sustainable solutions to customers when applicable.
Requirements
- Experience: Minimum of 5-10 years of experience in MEP operations, including at least 3-5 years in a managerial role.
- Certifications: MEP industry certifications (EPA, NATE, etc.) preferred but not required.
- Strong leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Financial and business acumen, including budgeting and cost management.
- Proficiency in MEP software, scheduling systems, and CRM platforms.
- Deep knowledge of MEP systems, codes, and regulations.
- Strong understanding of residential installation and service operations, job costing, and scheduling workflows.
- Experience using field management software (e.g., ServiceTitan, FieldEdge, or similar).
- OSHA knowledge and commitment to maintaining a strong safety culture.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
