About the Department
The purpose of the class is to perform routine manual work. This class is responsible for service work such as digging trenches, cleaning ditches; assists with installation of fixtures such as pipes, valves, fittings, and manholes; landscape, road, sidewalk, driveway restoration and other outdoor work. Completes logs or routine records. The class works according to set procedures under direct supervision.
Position Duties
- Operates vehicles such as trucks to transport people or material to job sites.
- Loads and unloads materials such as gravel, dirt, timber, chemicals, or other materials, tools, and equipment.
- Maintains outdoor areas by cutting grass, pruning trees and bushes, raking leaves and debris, installing landscape material, and other maintenance tasks.
- Performs utility service work such as digging trenches, cleaning ditches; assists with installation of fixtures such as pipes, manholes, and sewer lines.
- Performs maintenance functions such as repairing irrigation, greasing pumps, motors, and shafts, and replacing valves; performs light repairs and installations as directed.
- Maintains indoor areas such as cleaning facilities and indoor areas, performing light maintenance such as painting and minor repairs.
- Assists the public by answering questions and providing routine information.
- Performs clerical tasks such as completing work orders or maintaining logs.
- Compares or inspects items against a standard.
- Follows oral and written directions; communication effectively in both oral and written form of supervisor
- Makes a few decisions, affecting only the individual.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work, including City and other government officials, community groups, and the general public; and applying safe work practices.
Minimum Qualifications
Previous experience working in a ground’s maintenance position preferred, but not required. Employee will receive on the job training.
General knowledge of computer usage preferred.
Requires a valid State of Florida driver license and satisfactory driving record as a condition of initial and continued employment.
May be required to acquire and maintain a specific applicators license.
Other Qualifications
- Attends unit meetings, in-service training, workshops, etc. for the purpose of gathering information required to perform job functions.
- Performs other related duties as assigned for ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
