POSITION SUMMARY (Basic purpose or primary function of job)

The Director, Data-Driven Marketing leads a team of marketing professionals, overseeing the development and execution of data-driven marketing strategies that utilize advanced marketing technologies, such as Salesforce Marketing Cloud, to drive personalization and automation. This role is responsible for optimizing the email marketing program and ensuring that data insights are effectively leveraged to meet business objectives. The Director manages a team that includes email marketing specialists and data management personnel, while collaborating with cross-functional teams to align data-driven efforts with the overall business strategy. The Director is also responsible for managing the Foundation’s paid media campaigns in partnership with trusted agencies and vendors.

The Director’s team partners with Marketing Strategy & Planning and other Foundation team members in the development of integrated marketing and communications strategies and plans to support organizational priorities and objectives. This team also oversees channel technologies such as Salesforce Marketing Cloud (the marketing automation platform) and other integrations and marketing technology platforms.

As Director, Data-Driven Marketing, this leader will marry an understanding of the Foundation’s various audiences and constituencies with a performance-driven mindset to drive relevant touchpoints and test and optimize to drive improved results. They will provide guidance and coaching to the team on best practices and standards in leveraging Salesforce Marketing Cloud, monitoring and measuring performance, optimizing against KPIs, and reporting success and opportunities for growth. They will also support their direct reports in staying up-to-date with the latest digital trends and encourage their professional development and growth.

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES (Principal responsibilities or job duties)

  1. Lead their staff in monitoring and managing channel health and performance against KPIs, in partnership with vendor partners and Marketing Insights & Optimization staff.
  2. Contribute to the development of campaign and communication strategies and plans that align with channel goals and best practices.
  3. Develop and implement data-driven marketing strategies that leverage Salesforce Marketing Cloud to drive personalization and automation across digital platforms.
  4. Use behavioral data, segmentation, and real-time triggers to improve user experiences. 
  5. Collaborate with web teams to ensure proper tagging is in place across .org to allow for personalized touchpoints; understand and leverage capabilities and functionality of the CMS and other tools to support and optimize personalization efforts.
  6. Manage the Foundation’s paid media campaigns and oversee agency partners.
  7. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure that data-driven marketing efforts are aligned with overall business goals. Partner with Marketing Strategy & Planning and the Marketing Insights & Optimization Manager to develop projections and KPIs for strategies and campaigns.
  8. Manage and mentor direct reports, providing guidance, development, and day-to-day direction and support.
  9. Oversee staff responsible for operations such as administration and management of Salesforce Marketing Cloud and other marketing technology platforms.
  10. Develop and maintain regular and frequent relationships with partners, vendors, professional groups, nonprofit peers and other organizations to stay abreast of industry trends and emerging data-driven marketing technologies.
  11. Serve as member of the Marketing & Communications department leadership team.

 

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION

  1. Bachelor’s degree in marketing, advertising or related field, plus a minimum of 10+ years of progressive experience in digital marketing, advertising, and/or marketing technology.
  2. Experience contributing to marketing and communications strategies and plans, as well as experience driving the channel-specific execution of those plans.
  3. Hands-on experience with a variety of marketing channels, such as email marketing and paid media.
  4. A deep understanding of marketing automation and personalization strategy and execution.
  5. Experience working with and overseeing agencies and vendors.
  6. A consistent record of positive performance results.
  7. Ability to work collaboratively with interdependent teams to accomplish results.
  8. Demonstrated ability to lead, direct and motivate, as well as coach and proactively monitor and manage team performance.
  9. Excellent oral and written communications and interpersonal skills and the ability to interact positively with staff and volunteers at all levels, as well as experience presenting strategies and results to colleagues and executive leadership.
  10. Experience managing complex program budgets.
  11. Experience working in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple streams of work simultaneously, and setting and meeting deadlines.
  12. A demonstrated commitment to high professional ethical standards and a diverse workplace.
