About the Role:

The VP, Reinsurance Financial Risks - US & Canada Underwriting will be responsible for underwriting a diverse portfolio of national and regional accounts, driving profitable growth, and maintaining strong relationships with brokers and clients. This role requires a high level of technical expertise, market insight, and collaboration with internal stakeholders to ensure alignment with Everest’s underwriting standards and strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

Underwriting & Portfolio Management

  • Underwrite contract and commercial surety bonds for a cross-section of national and regional primary companies.
  • Evaluate financial statements, credit reports, and other relevant data to assess risk and determine appropriate terms and conditions.
  • Ensure underwriting decisions align with Everest’s credit and risk appetite.
  • Maintain detailed underwriting files, pricing worksheets, and documentation to support decisions and ensure audit readiness.

Business Development & Relationship Management

  • Collaborate with the SVP and existing surety team to identify and pursue new business opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with brokers, agents, and clients to support production and retention goals.
  • Represent Everest at industry events, client meetings, and broker engagements to promote our brand and capabilities.

Operational Excellence

  • Learn and apply departmental workflows, systems, and data processing procedures.
  • Contribute to process improvement initiatives and support the implementation of best practices.
  • Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and regulatory developments to inform underwriting strategy.

Team Collaboration & Leadership

  • Serve as a mentor and resource to junior underwriters and support staff.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with legal, finance, claims, and compliance teams to ensure seamless execution of underwriting activities.
  • Participate in strategic planning and portfolio reviews with senior leadership.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree or professional designation (e.g., AFSB) preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in surety underwriting or a related field.
  • Proven track record of underwriting profitable business and managing complex accounts.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data and assess risk.
  • Excellent presentation, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and accountability.

Knowledge, Skills & Competencies:

  • Deep understanding of surety products, markets, and underwriting principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to market and produce new business while maintaining underwriting discipline.
  • Strong relationship-building skills with a customer-focused mindset.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and underwriting systems.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines under pressure.
  • Strategic thinker with a structured, organized, and innovative approach to problem-solving.
  • Commitment to compliance with internal controls and external regulatory requirements.

The base salary range for this position is $201,000 - $250,000 annually. The offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, experience, qualifications and work location. All offers include access to a variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance coverage, an employee wellness program, life and disability insurance, 401k match, retirement savings plan, paid holidays and paid time off (PTO).
