IT Officer is responsible for running regular checks on network and data security to be up to highest company’s standard, works on identifying and acting on opportunities to improve and upgrade software and systems onboard.
Key Responsibilities
- Follow HESS policies and procedures provided by shore side Fleet IT, Ships management and the Company
- Support for all software applications on board.
- Work with Corporate ITO and IT Superintendent to plan, facilitate, and deploy software/hardware projects and upgrades.
- Responsible for receiving, tracking and off-loading all IT related equipment on and off the vessel.
- Daily, Weekly, Monthly checklist tasks to be completed as per shoreside instructions.
- Weekly status reporting back to SVP of Fleet IT, vessel Superintendent, Corporate ITO and onboard manager
- Document hand-over reports to in-coming IT Officer’s.
- Set-up, set-down, and troubleshoot of embarkation check-in workstations and equipment.
- Routine repairs and maintenance of hardware where possible
- Deploy Change Management Procedures for patches and upgrades to software applications.
- Communicates improvement strategies with shipboard and shore side management.
- Communicates with shore side management to make them aware of technology and/or training issues that affect overall operations.
- Considers performance improvement recommendations in an effort to improve and develop skills to further their career.
- Follows and adheres to all Fleet Regulations related to health and safety procedures, training and requirements.
- Leads by example in matters of professionalism, ethics, responsibility, integrity, ownership, engagement and personal presentation.
- Fulfills emergency duty as assigned in the Ships Mustering System; Ensures to attend applicable trainings in a timely manner and educates him/herself on any written communication in order to execute this emergency function efficiently.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or equivalent work experience.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in IT support, systems administration, or related technical role.
- CompTia, Network+, Microsoft role-based certifications
- Basic understanding of CISCO or Aruba networking or equivalent switching technologies.
- Strong knowledge of networking, Windows systems, and end-user support practices.
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in a high-demand environment.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multicultural team environment.
- Strong communication skills and ability to interact professionally with shipboard staff and officers.
- Willingness to learn and grow into advanced infrastructure and systems roles.
- Excellent written, oral, and presentation skills in English.
- Ability to work on rotation (3 months onboard / 3 months off) and adapt to a 24/7 environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Exposure to VMware environments; certification a plus.
- ITIL Foundation Certification
- Cisco or Aruba Associate or Professional Certifications
- Working knowledge of Palo Alto firewalls.
- Hands-on experience with Fidelio and Micros/Symphony systems.
- Understanding of satellite communication technologies (C-band, Ku-band, Iridium).
