Project leadership
- Defining project scope: An External Affairs Project Manager determines the goals, deliverables, and resource requirements for external affairs projects, such as a community outreach campaign for a new infrastructure project.
- Leading cross-functional teams: They coordinate staff from different departments (e.g., public works, communications, legal) and manage external vendors or consultants to ensure the project is executed efficiently.
Strategic communication and public outreach
- Enhancing public image: The manager directs public relations efforts to build a positive reputation for the county by developing and distributing content like press releases and social media posts.
- Community engagement: They lead or support community outreach projects, host public events and meetings, and serve as a point of contact for external stakeholders to gain support and address concerns.
- Media relations: This can involve pitching stories to journalists, preparing county officials for media interviews, and managing communication during crises or major incidents.
Stakeholder and government relations
- Managing relationships: They build and maintain relationships with a wide network of external stakeholders, including elected and appointed officials, state and federal agencies, community groups, and local businesses.
- Policy advocacy: The manager stays informed on legislative and regulatory developments and supports advocacy efforts to promote the county's policy priorities.
- Developing materials: They create and coordinate briefing materials, reports, and presentations for key stakeholders and internal leadership.
Project evaluation and management
- Budgeting and tracking: The manager oversees the project budget, monitors expenditures, and tracks the progress of initiatives against timelines and key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Risk assessment: They analyze and anticipate risks and opportunities related to a project, particularly those that could affect the county's reputation or goals.
- Performance reporting: The manager provides regular status updates and performance reports to senior leadership and other stakeholders.
Perform any additional duties as delineated by the Fort Bend County Commissioners' Court related to the objectives of the Department.
Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers.
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's Degree and 2 years related experience.
