MEDIA ASSISTANT GLADE CREEEK ELEMENTARY
Position Title: Media Assistant
Position Type: Full-Time/Classified/10-months
Salary: $2600/month (based on $15/hour)
Benefits: Health Insurance, Retirement, and Applicable Leave Allowances
Pre-Requisites: Associate’s Degree or 48 hours of Post-Secondary Education
Other Requirements: Must Hold or be Eligible to Hold a CDL License (P & S Endorsement)
Reports To: Principal
JOB SUMMARY: We are seeking an instructionally minded person who is able to manage, plan for, and keep up with the day-to-day operations of the Media Center. This includes providing literacy and media-based lessons to students of all grade levels (K-8) as well as providing tutoring/intervention support for students per the directives of the Principal.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Library Operations:
- Greet students, parents, and staff in a friendly manner
- Respond to information requests in a courteous, timely, and helpful manner
- Answer phones
- Assist others in finding materials requested
- Monitor students and handle discipline as needed
- Maintain student and materials records
- Maintain confidentiality of student and staff information
- Shelve all books
- Make sure books on shelves are in the proper order and neatly on shelves
- Shelve materials at a variety of cabinet heights (3” to 6’)
- Keep areas clean and organized
- Prepare purchase orders and order library supplies
- File paperwork in the proper place including computer files
- Create, set up and maintain calendars, announcements and displays
- Take a leadership role in the development of curriculum materials
- Create media center reports
- Laminate materials
- Assist with inventory

Circulation of Materials
- Check materials in/out to students, teachers and staff
- Check Holds report daily and fill ready holds
- Notify teachers and students when materials requested are available
- Process new books, periodicals, newspapers, equipment, and other materials and prepare them for circulation
- Create barcode and spine labels for books and other materials
- Cover books as needed
- Enter materials into Destiny
- Assist with book repair and maintain repair records
- Generate late book lists and email to teachers prior to library visits
- Record lost books and damage information
- Assess fines and distribute notices to students and bookkeeping
- Receive payment for fines and process to bookkeeping

Technology/Equipment
- Access, input and retrieve information from a computer
- Turn on and login to look-up stations each morning
- Schedule, order, receive and return materials
- Help teachers and students operate equipment as needed
- Assist with cleaning of equipment
- Train others to use media center programs
- Troubleshoot equipment problems and arrange for repair
- Work with technology department

SKILLS
- Administrative skills to interpret policies regarding copyright laws as applicable to books, videos, and software
- Collaborative skills to work constructively and cooperatively with others
- Common arithmetical function to collect fines and fees for lost books and depositing money from book fairs
- Communication skills to effectively communicate with students and staff
- Computer skills to install printers, basic hardware/software troubleshooting, and to assist students/faculty with computer programs for research
- Manual skills for cleaning and maintaining media center equipment
- Mechanical skills to use laminator, copier, etc.
- Planning skills needed for scheduling classes and individual students for library time
- Software/word processing skills to write memos, catalog new materials, check materials in and out of the library, and operate the various media center programs
