Work Location: Onsite – Vital Place (Green Bay, Wisconsin)

Expected Working Hours: Monday – Friday 


Role Summary:

The Director of Human Resources will lead the HR function to strategically align people initiatives with the business goals of a fast-growing, private equity–backed pet food manufacturer. This role is pivotal in cultivating a high-performance, values-driven culture that attracts, develops, and retains top talent. The HR Director will oversee all aspects of talent management, employee engagement, organizational development, and compliance, ensuring the HR strategy supports both immediate operational needs and long-term growth objectives. As a key member of the leadership team, this individual will partner with senior leaders across the organization to drive workforce effectiveness, strengthen leadership capability, and position the company for continued success in a competitive market.


Role Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

Strategic HR Leadership

  • Align HR strategies with business objectives to support growth and organizational effectiveness.
  • Advise leadership on workforce planning, organizational design, and talent strategy.


Talent Management

  • Lead recruitment, onboarding, and retention efforts to attract and develop top talent.
  • Build strong pipelines and succession plans for future needs.


Employee Relations & Engagement

  • Foster a positive, values-driven workplace and address employee concerns promptly.
  • Support culture initiatives, engagement surveys, and company events that strengthen connection and belonging.


Organizational Development & Performance

  • Implement training and development programs that enhance skills, leadership, and performance.
  • Manage performance review processes and improvement plans.


Compensation, Benefits & Compliance

  • Oversee competitive pay and benefits programs aligned with company goals.
  • Ensure compliance with all labor laws, health and safety standards, and internal policies.
  • Maintain and update HR policies as needed.


Change Management & Communication

  • Lead HR initiatives related to organizational change, including integrations or restructuring.
  • Promote clear communication across all levels and channels of the organization.


Other Responsibilities

  • Support Food Safety and Quality Assurance (FSQA) standards and report any related issues.
  • Handle other HR duties as needed to support business and employee success.

Requirements

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field. Masters degree preferred. 
  • 7+years of progressive HR experience, with at least 3 years of senior leadership role, preferable in manufacturing or a private equity-backed environment. 
  • HR Certification preferred (SHRM-SCP, SPHR, etc.)
  • Experience in the pet food or consumer goods industry (preferred)
  • Bilingual is a plus (Spanish or Hmong)

  • Strong influencing and relationship-building capabilities, effectively partnering with senior leaders to drive strategic initiatives and organizational performance.
  • Analytical and strategic mindset with the ability to balance people priorities with operational and financial objectives.


Physical Requirements:

This position primarily operates in an office environment and requires prolonged periods of sitting at a desk while working on a computer. The role involves regular communication with employees and leaders in person, over the phone, and through written correspondence. The Director of Human Resources may occasionally need to stand, walk, and move between office and production areas, as well as lift up to 20 pounds. Occasional travel to company locations, meetings, or industry events may be required. While the intent of this role is to operate during standard business hours, there may be times when it is required to work extended hours, evenings, holidays, and/or weekends. The physical demands must be met with or without accommodation for an employee to be successful in performing the essential job functions of this role. This includes regular and frequent walking, listening, sitting, standing, and walking.
