About the Department

Under the general supervision of the Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs, the Dean is responsible for the academic integrity of the courses and programs of study within the Science (includes psychology, natural and physical), Technology, Engineering and Math Division, including the academic Business Department and the overall academic and administrative leadership of the Division programs and courses. It is imperative that this dean have a familiarity with strategic planning as well as the demonstrated ability to work in a team environment with other college stakeholders.

Position Duties

  • Plans, organizes, coordinates and leads Division activities and functions and assists in the development and administration of Division grant projects.  
  • Recruits, trains, directs, and evaluates the activities and performance of faculty and staff. Promotes and supports the professional development of faculty and staff. 
  • Works with faculty to introduce and use technology tools and alternative instructional methodologies that enhance student learning. Supports faculty in the development of experiential learning opportunities.
  • Provides leadership for faculty in designing and implementing a student learning outcomes assessment plan on multiple levels in alignment with the College’s strategic and equity plans.
  • Exercises leadership in the development and evaluation of Division curricula and ensures their quality.  Works to create and support educational and training partnerships with external and community organizations. Promotes the development of new, and the management of existing Associate Degree and Certificate Programs. Promotes and develops articulation agreements with baccalaureate institutions and assists with the development of articulation agreements with area high schools.
  • Develops and administers annual Division operating budget.  Assists in identifying and seeking opportunities in College fundraising.
  • Works with department chairs, the enrollment management team, advising and the registrar in developing the master course schedule and is responsible for the assignment of faculty workloads.
  • Directly implements the MCCC/MTA and AFSCME Collective Bargaining agreements and College policies related to them.
  • Monitors enrollment and graduation data and provides leadership to the Division on recruitment, marketing, and retention issues.
  • Works collaboratively with the Student Affairs Division in a ‘One Team’ dynamic to foster and enhance student success.
  • Assists in the research, generation, development, administration and assessment of division grant projects. Assists in identifying and seeking opportunities in College fundraising.
  • Provides leadership in developing collaborative initiatives within the workforce development and non-credit programs.
  • Prepares agenda and chairs division meetings. Serves as a member of the Academic & Student Affairs leadership council and other College committees and bodies. May serve as the designated AAC representative on standing College Committees.
  • Assists the Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs as requested in carrying out college-wide assignments beyond the scope of the Division that further the mission and vision of the College in alignment with the strategic and equity plans.
  • Performs special projects and related responsibilities as initiated and requested.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree or higher in discipline taught in a Business, Science, Technology, Engineering, Math or related discipline; 
  • Three years full-time teaching experience as well as administrative experiences (experience as a department chair or higher) including problem-solving and communication; demonstrated experience in curriculum development; 
  • Understanding of and commitment to the mission of a twenty-first century comprehensive community college; 
  • Familiarly with range of pedagogies including distance learning; 
  • Familiarity with outcomes assessment; 
  • Knowledge of open educational resources, demonstrated cultural competency; 
  • Ability to communicate effectively and provide leadership in the support of teaching and learning and building an effective team of professionals;
  • Demonstrated leadership in the creation of development of new and successful projects and programs; 
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff and student;
  • Experience in college governance;
  • Generative thinking skills, as well as evidence of vision to address changing technology and the challenges of the evolving global economy.

Preferred Qualifications: 
  • Doctorate degree; 
  • Experience (administrative or educational) at the community college level;
  • Experience with collective bargaining agreements; 
  • Leadership of educational assessment and/or accountability initiatives;
  • Distance learning efforts, knowledge of guided pathways and experience with grant administration. 
  • Experience with minority-serving institutions.

Other Qualifications

Direct Reports:

Oversees the operation of the BSTEM Division and supervises the activities and performance of the BSTEM Division staff at the College and in related settings.

Full-time, Non-Unit Professional Position

Salary Range: $121,489.45 - $134,133.44/year (Grade 9); plus a comprehensive State benefits package.  

Hours:  37.5 hrs./week.

Funding Source:  State.
