About the Department

POSITION SUMMARY  

The Instructor of Criminal Justice serves as a faculty member, responsible for instructing students in SUSLA’s Associate of Applied Science in Criminal Justice and the Associate of Arts Louisiana Transfer Criminal Justice, online and on-campus programs.  The instructor will develop and design curriculum plans which foster student learning and provide academic counseling to students.    

 

Position Duties

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  1. Master’s degree in Criminal Justice or a Master’s degree with a minimum of eighteen (18) graduate hours in Criminal Justice.
  2. Two to three years of successful teaching and instructional design experience
  3. Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  4. Computer skills are necessary
  5. Strong attention to detail is essential 

Faculty are required to work as needed, which includes teaching on and off-campus sites for both day and evening classes.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  1. Online teaching experience, preferably in a community college setting
  2. Two to three years of experience working in the Criminal Justice field

Other Qualifications

PRIMARY RESPONSBILITIES: 

  • Teach courses in the Criminal Justice programs. 
  • Assess the instructional needs of students in the program and coordinate the development of a plan to address these needs.
  • Assist the department chair in scheduling classes for the programs.
  • Serve as a student advisor.
  • Coordinate with other appropriate faculty to develop the annual core curriculum evaluations of the program, assessment of institutional effectiveness and prepare reports.
  • Coordinate course textbook orders and course materials.
  • Maintain communication and work cooperatively with instructors of off-campus instructional sites, including Dual Enrollment.
  • Assist with the coordination of Dual Credit and Distance Education classes.
  • Serve on institutional committees
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
