Position Overview
Support our healthcare partners & help them thrive at Meduit! The Coding Specialist II is responsible for correctly coding healthcare claims and analyzing denials to obtain proper reimbursement. The Coder accurately and efficiently codes hospital outpatient and professional service using official code sets and classifications systems to obtain the most accurate data based on documentation.
Key Responsibilities
- Read and analyze patient records
- Accurately and efficiently code for a variety of services including but not limited to, evaluation and management, laboratory, imaging, injections and infusions, and specialty surgical procedures in the clinic and hospital outpatient settings.
- Monitor, research, and correct claim denials within health plan requirements and document any trends with which to follow-up
- Submits clean claims for payment
- Complies with Federal and State standards utilizing CCI edits, Medicare bulletins, ACR bulletins, etc. to keep abreast of the changes within the industry
- Maintains knowledge of and complies with coding guidelines
- Find documentation in multiple EMR systems such as EPIC, ECW, Cerner, Meditech
- Interacts with clients to ensure accuracy
- Maintain patient confidentiality and information security
- Maintain an error rate of 5% or less
Essential Skills
- Strong knowledge of medical billing and coding practices
- Professional billing
- Outpatient facility and hospital billing
- Knowledge of Rural Health Clinic (RHC), Critical Access Hospital (CAH), and ESRD coding preferred
- Extensive knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and pathophysiology
- Strong insurance knowledge and understanding of denial reason codes
- Strong HIPAA and OSHA knowledge
- Ability to work EMR systems; specifically Epic & Meditech
- Familiarity with claim scrubbing tools such as encoder, claim edits, and clearing house
- Knowledge of bill types and required claim information
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 5 years of on-the-job experience in abstract coding and coding denials for both hospital outpatient and professional claims
- Any of the following certifications by AAPC or AHIMA (Proof of current certification required):
- Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)
- Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)
- Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)
- Certified Professional Coder (CPC)
- Or equivalent certification from AAPC or AHIMA
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate degree or equivalent in Health Information Management
Additional Information
- Pay: $26-30/hour
- Schedule: 8am - 5pm in Eastern, Central, Mountain, or Pacific Time Zones, Monday – Friday
- Location: Remote
- Anticipated start date: 12/1/25
