Job Summary

The Drywall Senior Estimator is responsible for leading preconstruction and estimating activities related to multifamily drywall and related scopes. This role bridges design intent, constructability, and operational execution by managing early project coordination, budget development, scope definition, and client communication through preconstruction and transition to operations. The position requires strong estimating expertise, deep understanding of multifamily construction systems, and the ability to direct both internal estimating teams and field operational input for accurate and competitive proposals.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

Preconstruction & Estimating

• Lead the drywall estimating process from customer interactions to bid submission.

• Identify, pursue, and secure bid opportunities with both existing and new multifamily clients.

• Prepare and manage quantity takeoffs, and detailed cost breakdowns for all drywall, steel stud framing, and ceiling scopes.

• Develop and maintain accurate costs and production rates specific to multifamily construction.

• Oversee all value engineering efforts — identify design or scope adjustments that improve cost efficiency without compromising quality.

• Generate and present detailed bid proposals and scope breakdowns to customers.

• Ensure clear definition of inclusions, exclusions, and alternates within all proposals.

Directive Leadership & Coordination

• Direct estimating and preconstruction staff on assigned customers.

• Collaborate with operations team to confirm constructability, material availability, and sequencing assumptions.

• Review plans, specifications, and communicate with operations team to identify design gaps, conflicts, or risk items.

• Lead preconstruction meetings with clients and internal departments to align expectations and responsibilities.

• Coordinate with production team during project turnover to ensure scope, labor assumptions, and budgets are fully understood.

Client & Market Engagement

• Maintain relationships with key customers, developers, and suppliers in the multifamily sector.

• Participate in client presentations, pre-bid meetings, and design-assist collaborations.

• Provide early conceptual budgets and pricing guidance to support repeat client development.

Administrative & Strategic Duties

• Track pending and lost bids and offer support to the sales team.

• Work closely with entire team on cost feedback and post-job analysis to continuously refine estimating accuracy.

• Assist in developing department standards, estimating templates, internal best practices, and sale strategies.

• Support and training of junior estimators or sales teams.

Job Qualifications

Education:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management or related field of study or High School Diploma/GED with equivalent work experience

Experience:

• 5+ years in drywall, interiors, or paint estimating with a strong focus on multifamily or commercial projects.

• Proven ability to lead preconstruction efforts on projects $500k–$3M+.

• Advanced proficiency with OST & QuickBid, Bluebeam, Excel, or similar software.

• Strong working knowledge of framing/drywall assemblies, fire/sound-rated systems, and multifamily design standards.

Skills:

• Excellent communication, organization, and leadership skills.

• Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

• Strong numerical and reasoning skills

Working conditions

• Work will be conducted in a variety of conditions: in the office, out in the field visiting potential or active construction jobsites, and out at customer meetings, industry events, etc.

Physical Requirements

• Able to demonstrate the manual dexterity to operate a personal computer effectively. 

• Able to communicate orally in a clear manner. 

• Able to hear oral communication either in person or on equipment such as telephone or mobile phone. 

• Able to operate a personal computer, either desktop or laptop, for extended periods of time creating, composing and reviewing documents and spreadsheets. 

• Able to operate office equipment, including telephone, mobile phone, photocopier, fax machine, scanner and calculator.
