REPORTS TO: Pharmacy Director

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: 

High School diploma or equivalent and Texas State Board of Pharmacy – Pharmacy Technician certification.  Minimum of five (5) years of pharmacy experience, with at least three (3) years in a leadership or supervisory role preferred. Community health center or 340B pharmacy experience strongly preferred.

 

 

SKILLS: The ideal candidate will demonstrate advanced knowledge of pharmacy operations, strong communication and interpersonal skills, and a proven ability to lead, train, and motivate others. This role requires exceptional problem-solving, organizational, and conflict resolution skills, along with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced and evolving healthcare environment. The Pharmacy Technician Manager must model professionalism, integrity, and superior customer service. Proficiency in Epic electronic health record (EHR) and pharmacy management systems is preferred. Bilingual (Spanish) candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.

 

 

PRIMARY DUTIES:

  • Customer Service and Patient Engagement:
    1. Greet and assist patients with questions about pharmacy services in a friendly and professional manner.
    2. Deliver exceptional service to patients and team members, fostering trust and collaboration.
    3. Provide non-drug information to patients and clinicians and answer appropriate questions.
    4. Technician Manager: Set the standard for service excellence; model empathy and professionalism in all interactions and assist in resolving patient concerns.
    5. Technician Manager: Serve as a pharmacy ambassador to Family Circle of Care staff, encouraging internal referrals and positive collaboration.

 

  • Prescription Processing and Data Entry:
    1. Receive prescriptions and verify completeness and accuracy of information.
    2. Accurately enter patient and prescription data into pharmacy systems.
    3. Calculate drug dosages and perform metric and apothecary conversions as needed.
    4. Work under pharmacist supervision in accordance with Texas State Board of Pharmacy regulations.
    5. Technician Manager: Provide guidance and troubleshooting support to technicians on data-entry and workflow questions.
    6. Technician Manager: Identify opportunities to improve accuracy, efficiency, or patient flow and share recommendations with the pharmacist or Pharmacy Director.

 

 

  • Inventory Management 
    1. Maintain accurate medication inventory by receiving, verifying, and restocking orders.
    2. Monitor for expired, damaged, or recalled products and ensure proper documentation.
    3. Ensure appropriate storage, separation, and tracking of 340B inventory.
    4. Assist the pharmacist with ordering, returns, and inventory reconciliations.
    5. Technician Manager: Support inventory control initiatives by training team members on rotation (FIFO), recordkeeping, and waste reduction.
    6. Technician Manager: Collaborate with the Pharmacy Director to identify cost-saving or efficiency opportunities in purchasing and stock management.

 

  •  Prescription Filling and Dispensing Support:
    1. Prepare, label, and package prescriptions under pharmacist supervision while ensuring correct drug, strength, and quantity.
    2. Maintain compliance with Family Circle of Care, state, and federal standards.
    3. Assist in staging, bagging, and organizing completed prescriptions for pharmacist verification.
    4. Keep workstations stocked, organized, and safe.
    5. Technician Manager: Help coordinate technician workflow and support team members in maintaining accuracy and efficiency.
    6. Technician Manager: Act as a quality checkpoint, catching and correcting errors or inconsistencies before pharmacist review.

 

  • Transaction Processing:
    1. Operate the point-of-sale system, accurately balance cash drawers, and process payments.
    2. Reconcile daily totals and prepare accurate deposits.
    3. Technician Manager: Train staff on POS procedures and accuracy checks to ensure financial integrity.

 

  • Compliance and Confidentiality:
    1. Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with all HIPAA and privacy regulations.
    2. Follow established procedures to support 340B compliance, data accuracy, and eligibility verification.
    3. Assist the pharmacist with resolving prescription or insurance issues.
    4. Technician Manager: Reinforce compliance culture through example, peer reminders, and collaboration during audits or quality checks.

 

  • Operational Support:
    1. Answer telephones, coordinate patient communications, and assist with daily pharmacy workflow.
    2. Use Epic EHR and pharmacy systems for accurate data entry and communication.
    3. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized workspace.
    4. Technician Manager: Support scheduling, workload balance, and prioritization when needed to maintain workflow efficiency.
    5. Technician Manager: Collaborate with pharmacists and staff to enhance communication and service coordination.

 

  • Professional Development and Team Support:
    1. Participate in ongoing training and continuing education to maintain certification and enhance skills.
    2. Contribute to a positive team culture built on respect, accountability, and mutual support.
    3. Technician Manager: Assist in onboarding and training new staff or trainees; serve as a mentor and resource for less experienced team members.
    4. Technician Manager: Promote teamwork, problem-solving, and continuous improvement aligned with FCC’s mission and values.

 

  • Leadership and Ambassadorship:
    1. Serve as a liaison between the pharmacy, clinic teams, and FCC leadership.
    2. Handle team and customer conflicts constructively and support resolution.
    3. Represent the pharmacy in meetings and outreach events as assigned.

 

 

OTHER DUTIES:

  • Participate in staff meetings, training, and quality-improvement initiatives.
  • Support community-outreach and special projects as directed.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
