Description

Summary:

This position is responsible for delivering K – 12 youth education programming across our clients combined service area and at the organization’s facilities. The position entails additional responsibilities related to the successful functioning and support of the Youth Education program. As directed by the Youth Education Program manager or his/her designee, the educator will perform the following:

Instruction

• Conduct and support educational programming (presentations, facility tours, etc.) in accordance with program expectations to target audiences as directed.

• Employ a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.

• Represent Client to the community in a professional and positive manner.

Instructional Material Refinement/Program Development

• Assist in developing activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, question, and investigate.

• Collaborate with the Youth Education team to develop, refine, coordinate, implement, and evaluate program goals, objectives, and other outreach programming as needed.

• Assist in developing and refining existing program instructional materials, including lesson plans, new presentations, support materials, activities, the Teacher Resource Packet, ‘best practices’ for presenters and tour guides, etc.

• Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.

• Identify and select different instructional resources and methods to meet students' varying intellectual abilities, attitudes and cultural backgrounds and apply them to program offerings.

• Assist with the development and production of educational workshops on water-related content.

• Assist in developing a reference database and strategy for aligning the program with national, state and district educational standards; incorporate this alignment strategy in all offerings and instructional materials.

• Assist in developing a balanced program involving factual background materials, material on current events, discussion time and other appropriate activities designed to encourage pupils to develop skills and attitudes, draw conclusions, achieve improved interpersonal relationships and make value judgments based on scientific methods of inquiry.

Youth Tours

• Work with Client's Team YouthEd members to develop effective itineraries and support materials for youth tours of Utilities treatment and laboratory facilities.

• Assist with youth tours development and delivery.

• Assist with coaching and mentoring other Utility staff to conduct effective facility tours, including the development and production of educational workshops on water treatment-related content and ‘best practices’ for presenters and tour guides.

Program Support

• Maintain clear, accurate and timely communications with Youth Education and other Utility staff, educators and other program audiences.

• Maintain program records, including timely correspondence confirming presentations and tours, following up with evaluation materials as needed

• Assist as needed with scheduling programs, meeting logistics, preparing meeting summaries and other correspondence.

• Assist as necessary with special projects.

• Provide timely, accurate information to support other team members, employees, educators and other audiences.

Qualifications


Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in education, science or environmental science preferred

• Two or more years of directly related and demonstrated experience working with diverse youth audiences in formal (preferred) or informal environmental or science education

• Professional teacher education requirements at a state level

• Current Colorado Initial or Professional Teacher License preferred

• Demonstrated experience working with and training teachers

• Demonstrated experience establishing and maintaining external partnerships

• Excellent oral instructional, presentation, communication, organization, writing skills

• High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word and Excel

• Outstanding diplomacy and customer service skills

• Ability to function in a constantly changing, multi-task environment, both independently and in a team

• Strong interest working with children and the public

• Strong interest in water conservation and environmental education

• Valid Colorado Driver’s License and a clear driving record

• Access to reliable transportation and the ability to travel to and work where educational programing is scheduled (occasionally statewide).

• Background check that passes CNS requirements

• Ability to work required flexible schedule, including evening and weekend hours

• Fluency in English and Spanish a plus
