Position Duties

Under the direction of the Public Information Director and Assistant Director

• Researches, writes, edits, and proofreads written materials prepared by the Public Information Office staff.
• Performs clerical duties, including answering telephones, and monitoring and responding to incoming emails.
• Participates and assists in expanding community outreach and special projects. 
• Provides content for Chatham County social media sites.
• Acts as the department liaison to other County departments for the purposes of social media content and management.
• Establishes, maintains, and facilitates relationships with the media and media vendors.
• Performs the role of social media management under the Direction of the Lead PIO with input from the CEMA Outreach coordinator during a disaster activation.
• Works varied hours under special circumstances. 
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, Broadcasting, or a closely related field, and 
• At least one (1) year of experience in Journalism, Public Information or Public Relations, Marketing, Social Media Management, or a closely related field, including experience with publications, layout photography, and video productions; or 
• Any equivalent combination of experience and training. 
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, After Effects, and New Tek TricasterInDesign, and Sprout Social.
