Position: Cylinder Tech I

Pay: Cylinder Tech I, Level I - $21.10 - $25.94
POSITION SUMMARY: Reporting to the Graphics Manager, this position is preforming cylinder inspections and procedures to ensure high quality printing production.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Must always work safely, following all Plant and Division safety rules and policies.
Perform all functions in accordance with specified safety procedures ad designated PPE.
Maintain all company health and housekeeping GMP (Good Manufacture Practices) standards.
Apply cylinder technology to determine re-chroming, re-engraving and polishing needs.
Inspect all incoming cylinders to ensure required work is complete.
Inspect all cylinders to ensure they are engraved as needed.
Assist press crews in corrective actions relative to press, production, ink and cylinder issues.
Operate chrome plating machine to correct any minor damages to cylinders.
Responsible for general preparation, repair, maintenance, handling and storage of cylinders including receiving procedures.
Build cylinder history data base in PC.
View inventory and cylinder data base.
Follow procedures for polishing cylinders.
Operate forklift as required.
Maintain organize and clean work area.
Performs other duties assigned or as the situation dictates.
Work overtime as required.
Ability to work independently as well as with others.
Regular attendance required.
Computer and organizational skills a plus.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required. Ability to follow directions and complete assignments on time in a fast-paced environment. Ability to maintain logs and records in a legible, accurate and timely manner. Must demonstrate desire, ability and initiative to advance in progression. Demonstrated ability to make judgment calls based on experience and product history. Must adhere to high standards of professionalism when dealing with customers and coworkers daily.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Physical Demands: Medium work requires exertion of up to fifty (50) lbs. of force occasionally, up to twenty (20) lbs. of force frequently and up to ten (10) lbs. of force constantly to move/lift objects vertically and/or horizontally. Visual, particularly color acuity for detecting flawed/substandard printing is vital for this position.
WORK CONDITIONS SPECIFIC TO THIS POSITION: Work is primarily performed in laboratory or office environment. Some job functions may require time spent in manufacturing area. In accordance with the Sonoco Safety Program, all employees receive informative training on required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), chemicals and equipment used within the laboratory and plant. Noise levels may fluctuate according to proximity of operating equipment.
