2026 Software Engineering Apprentice - Graduate Level Apprenticeship in IT: Software Development (BSc)

Working Schedule: 37 hours per week. University days are normally a Friday, where you would either attend University in person or virtually. Mon, Tue, Wed, Thu are the Thales working days where you will be on site at Thales in Glasgow or working from home where suitable.

In the role of a Software Graduate Apprentice, you will work with the Engineering and Industry teams to design Software Solutions for our Engineering Systems and Hardware. You’ll work collaboratively with other teams in the business to ensure that you deliver the most effective software systems for the business and grow your skills and knowledge whilst doing so. In this role you will have the opportunity to support “embedded systems” which will allow for you to test the practicalities of your coding on real time cutting edge hardware.
Apprentice Programme:
As a Software Engineer Apprentice you will be studying at the University of Strathclyde towards a BSc in Software Development. For the duration of this 4 year programme you will combine university studies with practical application, working within our Software function in Glasgow.
You will be given one day per week in which to focus on your studies. For the other four days you will be working in the business, applying your university learning in a real-life engineering environment. Apprentices will be required to attend classes on campus for 10 days annually, once a month during term-time.
Upon completion of the programme you will move into a permanent role within Thales in Glasgow.

- 4 Highers (BBBB) including either Maths, Computing Science or Physics
- National 5 English at grade C or above

Please note, assessment centres for shortlisted candidates will be held between February - May 2026. Induction week for all Graduates and Apprentices will take place from Monday 7 September - Friday 11 September 2026.
