Our Stantec New York City architecture team is currently seeking an experienced senior Project Architect with a strong background in existing building envelope forensics and rehabilitation, historic methods of construction, and technical design and detailing. The ideal candidate would enjoy problem solving, working with a team to develop creative solutions to complex issues, and mentoring of junior staff.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Lead projects of various sizes from conceptual design/scope development through construction administration and closeout.
- Inspire creativity, critical thought, and design excellence both internally and externally.
- Conceptualize a design from both a functional and aesthetic perspective in concert with a client’s requirements, budget, schedule, and program.
- Lead coordination efforts with internal and external subconsultants for all building systems.
- Participate in development of the program and other pre-design efforts.
- Develop design options through sketches, electronic models, diagrams, massing studies, and other visual formats to express the design intent and communicate to project team, client, and building user groups.
- Participate in design critiques and pin-ups.
- Present to and communicate with stakeholders.
- Implement sustainable design principles.
- Review and comment on cost estimates.
- Develop the design in accordance with code and zoning requirements, client objectives, and cost parameters.
- Evaluate and select building systems and materials.
- Ensure the design intent is maintained through documentation and construction.
- Secure approvals from all relevant authorities having jurisdiction.
Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- New York State Licensed Architect required.
- Previous New York City public school experience and other K-12 projects is a plus but not required.
- Ability to engage in creative and critical thought.
- Able to lead project teams and drive design excellence with strong communication and relationship skills.
- Able to prioritize team assignments and maintain schedules.
- Support operations team with forecasting staff assignments.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, able to interpret sketches, drawings, codes, building program and other similar material.
- Strong demonstrated knowledge of building construction systems, constructability, detailing, materials, and industry associated codes and standards.
- Experience in Construction Administration is required.
- Experience in Alternative Delivery projects an asset.
- Advanced use of AutoCAD and Bluebeam is strongly preferred.
- Proficient use of Revit and the use of it as a design and documentation tool is preferred.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture or related field is required.
- Minimum of 15 years of experience.
- NY State Registered Architect is required.
- LEED Green Associate or LEED AP preferred.
Work is conducted in a studio / team environment in an office setting, working with computers. Encouraging physical movement, each desk is provided with a sit-stand configuration to avoid being sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather. COVID 19 provisions include allowance for a work from home / office hybrid as suits the needs of the employee and their team.
The position may be hybrid in nature with a minimum of 3 days working in the Stantec offices and 2 days outside the office. Communications with your project teams through Microsoft Teams, Outlook and Newforma is expected.
