Under limited supervision, provide support to the Purchasing Manager while evaluating and forecasting manufacturing plant needs and ordering materials from established vendors. Relies on experience and judgment to develop, plan, and accomplish goals. Will support the manager in efforts to develop and implement new strategies and procedures.

 

 

  • Update forecasting tools as needed to determine material requirements while considering Sales projections, optimum order quantities, lead-times, and plant warehouse capacities.
  • Prepare Purchase Orders in SAP at contract pricing and within established lead-times.
  • Help coordinate Material Planner I’s work with the New Product team to order materials for new and seasonal items to meet target deadlines.
  • Reconcile vendor confirmations and update forecasting tools and SAP to ensure accurate pricing, quantities, and delivery dates.
  • Interact with Accounts Payable and Material Planner I’s to help resolve invoice discrepancies for payment.
  • Facilitate the return of non-conforming goods in a timely manner by working closely with the vendors, quality assurance, and the manufacturing plants.
  • Track open Purchase Orders (or back orders) and research with plants and/or vendors to reach final resolution.
  • Interact with plant personnel when material stock outs occur and resolve in a timely, economical manner.  This may require expediting material and obtaining freight quotes.
  • Assist in the cross training of Material Planner I’s to ensure coverage in emergencies and vacation needs.
  • Review, authorize and catalogue requests to economically expedite materials to resolve out of stock issues at manufacturing plants.
  • Assist in reviewing, developing, and implementing of procedures, policy, and strategies for the department.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree required. 3 to 5 years’ experience in Procurement and or equivalent experience in a related field. * Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience may be considered for the above.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES

  • Work requires the ability to communicate effectively cross –functionally, both in writing and orally
  • Work requires experience analyzing and determining trends.
  • Work requires skills in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures.
  • Work requires proficiency using Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook, SAP experience a plus.
  • Work requires ability to use independent judgment to forecast and order material needs.
  • Bilingual Spanish, preferred.
