Job Description/Expectations

JOB TITLE: Quality Engineer

CLASSIFICATION: Exempt

DIVISION/DEPARTMENT: Great Lakes / Quality

DATE DEVELOPED: 01/2023

REPORTS TO: Quality Manager

POSITION SCOPE

The Quality Engineer plays a critical role in the continuous improvement of product quality. Individual will be the primary point of contact at Cascade for customer identified issues relating to product quality. Manages customer complaints, ensuring timely response to customer regarding issues. Actively engages employees to address issues impacting overall safety, product quality, production efficiency, and company cost. Assist employees with the disposition of product based on conformance to customer specifications.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist with activities required for APQP/PPAP; including develop FMEA control plans, completion of all required documents and submit completed PPAP to customers for approval.
  • Leads efforts to resolve customer quality complaints within required time window.
  • Provides timely customer feedback to issues.
  • Effectively identifies root causes and implements robust corrective actions to avoid issue reoccurrence.
  • Performs audits of Cascade suppliers, evaluating continual conformance to ISO/IATF requirements.
  • Analyzes product flow within the process. Identifies and addresses issues, bottlenecks, etc.
  • Assist production, Engineering and Q.A. with gauging, measurements and problem solving.
  • Analyzes data to understand capability, feasibility, and identify trends.
  • Communicates quality issues and concerns to associates and management.
  • Address customer complaints in a timely manner. No corrective actions open beyond 30-days.
  • Support the internal audit process. Actively participate in IATF internal and surveillance audits.
  • Assist in the continual development of problem-solving skills at Cascade.
  • Able to identify conformity of product to customer specifications.
    • Ability to read and interpret blue prints.
    • Ability to read and interpret customer specifications (SQM, Assessments, CQI-27)
  • Improve internal scrap to deliver results satisfactory to company goals.
  • Improve overall PPM to deliver results satisfactory to company goals.
  • Participate and engage in ongoing improvement efforts while actively collaborating with team members on the production floor.
  • Regularly report for work on time with a desire to perform to the best of your abilities.
  • Work cooperatively with others in a team environment.
  • Read, comprehend, and follow written, standardized work instructions and trained procedures to perform any audit of cast/trim/secondary operations for quality standards.
  • Complies with all company employment policies, procedures/processes, and programs. Performs duties in compliance quality, safety, and manufacturing requirements.

  • Train production associates on quality standards and process changes as applicable.
  • Learn new tasks and adapt to frequent job duty changes as required by business needs.
  • Communicates quality issues and concerns to associates and managers.
  • Assist in containing non-conforming material including issuing of quality alerts and hold tickets.
  • Other duties are assigned from time-to-time.

 

Qualifications


JOB SPECIFICATIONS

CERTIFICATION, EDUCATION, and WORK EXPERIENCE:

  • IATF 16949 certification or experience preferred.
  • Prior experience with Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) assessments desired.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Science technologies.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of professional experience in a Quality role.
  • Strong understanding and use of problem-solving skills and quality tools. (DMAIC, Fault tree, 5-Why’s).
  • Demonstrated ability to use statistical problem-solving tools. Minitab experience desired.
  • GD&T and use gauging equipment including handheld gages required. Prior experience with CMM a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate professionally and effectively with associates and customers.
  • Computer literate in functions of spreadsheet, word processing & project charting programs.
  • Knowledge of parts and manufacturing process including work and inspection instructions.
  • Excellent communication skills both oral and written.

PHYSICAL AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Possess good physical stamina and coordination. Specific physical requirements of the position include the ability to continuously and repetitively:
    • Read standardized work instructions, operate machines and tools, and perform quality inspections.
    • Promptly detect and respond to visual and auditory safety instructions, alarms, and signals.
    • Wear personal protective equipment, for example: safety glasses, gloves, hats, ear plugs, long-sleeves, and steel-toed safety shoes.
    • Work in a loud manufacturing environment that is not climate controlled (conditions can be hot or cold).
    • Ability to see clearly at close and distance ranges, distinguish colors, maintain peripheral vision, perceive depth, and adjust focus as necessary.
  • Frequently and repetitively:
    • Sit (50%), Walk and Stand (50%) for periods of time.
    • Ascending and descending steps, stairs, and platforms.
    • Use hand positioning to grip/grasp devices such as gauges, calipers, measuring devices, and a wide range of other equipment.
    • Lift or carry materials weighing up to 15 pounds and periodically care or lift materials weighing up to 35lbs.
  • Occasionally
    • Bend, push, pull, twist, kneel, and reach to perform work.
  • Recognizes potential exposure to mechanical, chemical, radiation, electrical, and explosive hazards.
