General Summary:
Assists in programs to maintain buildings, equipment, utilities and distribution systems. Additional responsibilities include assist in preventative maintenance programs necessary for the care of the Medical Center’s facilities. Performs maintenance activities for specific areas of the maintenance department without direct supervision of department management. (i.e. electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, and/or paint). Maintain and assist in preventative maintenance programs for assigned areas. Performs inspections, tests, and maintenance as needed. Take lead role and coordinate with departments, utilities, and contractors to minimize disruptions in medical center operations. Maintain documentation to assure compliance with regulatory, safety, accreditation, state, local, and federal requirements of assigned area. Make recommendations of equipment or material replacement in assigned areas to department management. Help develop clear, concise preventative maintenance procedures. Plans and schedules preventative maintenance in areas. Works with minimal supervision. Schedules utility shutdowns and equipment repairs in the least disruptive manner. Monitors equipment for repairs. Repairs or recommends replacement of equipment. Maintains repair parts and materials. Contributes to the education needs of the department (i.e. writing of standard work instructions and annual education programs). The ability to work flexible shifts and be on-call as assigned. Must have a valid drivers license and a good driving record to utilize a company work vehicle.
Essential Functions:
- Performs and logs daily pre-established general rounds, accomplishing minor Physical Plant corrective maintenance. Based on deficiencies noted during rounds and Work Order assignments, performs corrective maintenance noted on rounds.
- Has primary responsibility for accomplishing and recording minor physical and mechanical plant work order requests as assigned. Corrective type repairs to restore buildings and mechanical plant equipment to its original or normal condition, includes, but is not limited, repairs of minor office equipment, repairs to support equipment, minor carpentry work and minor electrical work.
- Performs all responsibilities/duties required by the unit.
- Calculates Material needed and develops material lists.
- Provides for the safety of department employees.
- Working from Work Order Request forms, verbal instructions or detailed specifications, diagrams, sketches or plans, coordinates activities with other Hospital trade sections to expedite work, reads blueprints and specifications to determine procedure of constructing building systems and components.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Attends all required Safety Training programs and can describe his/her responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, and specific job related hazards.
- Follows the Hospital Infection Control Exposure Control Plans/Bloodborne and Airborne Pathogens.
- Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a department/unit team inter and intra departmentally to facilitate the department's/unit's ability to meet its goals and objectives.
- Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible and courteous environment.
