JOB TITLE: Assistant Aquatics Manager FLSA Status: Exempt
General Statement of Duties: Performs a variety of administrative and operational duties associated with the operation and management of aquatic recreation facilities.
Supervision Received: Works under the direction of the Aquatics Manager, Facility Manager, and indirectly under the direction of the Aquatics Operations and Programs Manager.
Supervision Exercised: Assists with supervision of all aquatic operations staff and indirect supervision of programming staff on-site.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Examples of Duties:
The following examples of duties are intended to be illustrative only and are not intended to be all inclusive.
- Responsible for the overall safety, risk management, and security of all staff, members, guests and facilities.
- Responsible for accident prevention through enforcement of policies, rules, and regulations governing the conduct of members using the pools.
- Assists with the supervision and administrative control for the efficient and safe operation of aquatic facilities. Evaluates and responds to customer suggestions for improved and/or additional services.
- Provides, supports, trains staff in delivering safe and excellent customer service to members.
- Works to ensure compliance with the policies, rules and regulations, and governing documents of the HRCA associated with the recreation function and governing regulation agencies (i.e. Douglas County Health Department) for aquatic environments.
- Responsible for the overall day to day function and operation of the assigned aquatic facility. This includes pump room operations, assisting with daily programming, and supervising operational staff.
- Assists and makes recommendations to the Aquatic Manager in the hiring, training and scheduling of staff for daily operations.
- Enforces the concept of the “professional lifeguard” as defined by the current “standard of care” established by Jeff Ellis and Associates, Inc. International Lifeguard Training Program (ILTP).
- Supervises work projects and assignments directly and through support staff.
- Performs routine maintenance, repairs, and diagnostics on swimming pool equipment.
- Conducts daily checks of maintenance, schedule and backwash logs, etc.
- Responsible for assisting with outdoor pool preparation including start-up, hiring, training, scheduling and evaluating staff, as well as assisting in closing seasonal outdoor facilities.
- Assists with site-specific program (birthday parties) including development, coordination, staffing, supplies, evaluation and budget.
- Participates in the mission of the organization of “Enhancing property values and creating quality of life through recreation, community events, and leadership.”
- Troubleshoots facility for appearance and working conditions and make the appropriate changes.
- Plans, conducts and coordinates in-services and staff training.
- Lifeguards and teaches as required and assigned.
- Performs facility coverage of the building as requested.
- Participates in the mission of the organization of “Enhancing property values and creating quality of life through recreation, community events, and leadership.”
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
Physical and Environmental Standards:
Most work is performed indoors in a busy office where noise and interruptions prevail. Work will also be performed outdoors in different types of conditions including, but not limited to, heat, humidity, sun, wind, cold, rain and snow. Must be able to frequently sit, walk, stand, climb, bend, kneel, stoop, reach and lift, push or pull. Must be able to stand/ walk/ rove for extended periods of time, up to 8 hours per shift. Manual dexterity is needed to type, write, use a calculator, and answer the phone. The ability to talk and hear via the telephone and through face-to-face communication is needed. Vision requirements include near and far acuity. Upper body strength is a requisite to lift/ remove a maximum of 50 pounds unassisted and 100 pounds with assistance.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Requires experience and knowledge in the areas of aquatic recreation, recreation facility operations and customer service. Must be computer literate. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers. Ability to collect, analyze and present data in report forms. Ability to effectively communicate, verbally and in writing, with staff and members. Must be able to bend, stoop, kneel, reach, twist and left. Ability to safely lift a minimum of 50 pounds, unassisted, on daily basis. Ability to lift, with assistance 100 pounds safely. Must possess or have the ability to obtain and maintain a National Swimming Pool Foundation Certified Pool Operator and/or Aquatic Facility Operator designation within 6 months, for the duration of employment. Must possess and maintain, an Ellis & Associates International Lifeguard Training Program (ILTP) Instructor license, for the duration of employment. Must have the ability to work a variety of shifts, including early mornings, late evenings and weekends, to accommodate the hours of the facility.
Must pass a pre-employment background check and drug screening.

Education:
Bachelor degree in a related field from an accredited four-year college or university is desired.
Experience:
Two (2) years in a related aquatics management field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
