POSITION:   Elementary .6 Art Teacher 

LOCATION:   KH Alpine Elementary

START DATE/CALENDAR: January 5, 2026 

SALARY/BENEFITS: As outlined in KHEA Master labor agreement 

Minimum Qualifications (Required)

• Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with an Art Education endorsement, or ability to obtain one prior to employment.

• Bachelor’s degree in Art Education, Fine Arts, or a closely related field.

• Demonstrated knowledge of Michigan Visual Arts Standards and grade-level benchmarks.

• Experience with elementary-aged students through student teaching, practicum, or prior employment.

• Ability to design and deliver engaging, developmentally appropriate lessons across multiple grade levels (K–5).

• Strong classroom management skills that promote creativity, inclusion, and safety in studio settings.

• Commitment to equitable practices and culturally responsive teaching in the visual arts.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired)

• Master’s degree in Art Education, Fine Arts, or Education.

• Experience integrating art with other core content areas (STEAM, literacy, social studies).

• Proficiency with a variety of media and techniques (2D, 3D, digital, ceramics, painting, drawing, etc.).

• Experience curating student artwork for school or community exhibitions.

• Knowledge of Capturing Kids’ Hearts, Responsive Classroom, or similar relationship-centered practices.

• Experience working with diverse learners and supporting inclusion for students with disabilities or special needs.

• Strong communication and collaboration skills with classroom teachers, parents, and administrators.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

• Promote a personalized approach to education, including advancing supportive strategies such as flipped classrooms, student-led assignments and assessments, portfolio development, student voice and choice, etc. 
• Must be a collaborative team member with a strong work ethic. 
• Prepare course objectives and outlines for course of study following curriculum guidelines or requirements of state and school. 
• Establish and enforce classroom management procedures consistent with building and district protocol. 
• Observe and evaluate student performance, behavior, social development, and physical health and report to parents as needed and required. 
• Prepare materials and classroom for class activities. 
• Utilize a multi-tiered system of support, as well as adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students’ varying needs and interests. 
• Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, question and investigate. 
• Create standard operating procedures that promote student agency and foster a collaborative learning environment over multiple grade levels (K-5).
• Use a variety of media and methods in order to motivate students and best utilize available time for instruction. 
• Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units and projects and communicate those objectives to the students. 
• Assign and grade class work and homework, adhering to building and district protocols. 
• Comfortable tutoring small groups of students in math and reading.
• Prepare, administer and grade tests and assignments to evaluate students’ progress. 
• Collaborate with other professional staff to enhance instruction and adapt and modify curriculum in order to meet individual student needs. 
• Participate in the development and revision of goals and performance objectives for students, course content and learning activities, evaluates procedures and instructional materials. 
• Keep attendance and academic records as required by the district. 
• Support the tenants of Capturing Kids Hearts
• Maximize student engagement through adherence to the evaluation platform
• Implement IEP and 504 plans
