About the Role:
The Hospice Inpatient Registered Nurse (RN) plays a critical role in delivering compassionate, patient-centered care to individuals in the final stages of life within the inpatient unit located in Sheboygan Falls. This position involves managing complex symptom control, providing emotional support to patients and their families, and coordinating interdisciplinary care to ensure comfort and dignity. The RN will work 3 twelve-hour shifts from 7am to 7pm, including a weekend and holiday rotation.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Wisconsin.
- Minimum of one year of clinical nursing experience, preferably in hospice, palliative, or end-of-life care settings.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Ability to work the specified schedule of 3 twelve-hour shifts from 7am to 7pm.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification in Hospice and Palliative Nursing (CHPN) or willingness to obtain within a specified timeframe.
- Experience working in an inpatient hospice or palliative care unit.
- Demonstrated skills in pain and symptom management specific to end-of-life care.
Responsibilities:
- Assess and monitor patients’ physical and emotional conditions, implementing individualized care plans to manage symptoms and promote comfort.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, ensuring adherence to hospice protocols and safety standards.
- Provide education and emotional support to patients and their families regarding disease progression, symptom management, and end-of-life decisions.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members including physicians, social workers, chaplains, and aides to coordinate comprehensive care.
- Document all nursing assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately and timely in compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Respond promptly to changes in patient condition, adjusting care plans and communicating with the team to address emerging needs.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and therapeutic environment within the inpatient unit, adhering to infection control and safety policies.

The Hospice Inpatient RN utilizes clinical nursing skills daily to assess patient conditions, administer medications, and implement care plans tailored to individual needs. Strong communication skills are essential for educating patients and families, providing emotional support, and collaborating with the interdisciplinary team to ensure cohesive care delivery.
