About the Department
Livingston County is excited to announce the scheduled classes for the 2026 Certified Nursing Assistant Trainee Program. They are as follows:

- February 25, 2026
- April 6, 2026
- May 11, 2026
2026 Pay Rate is $20.04/hour
Trainees may be scheduled to begin employment up to three weeks prior to the start of the class.
Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis for classes listed above and preference in hiring decisions will be given to Livingston County residents. However, you must reside in New York State.
This trainee position exists in the County’s Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation (CNR) enabling an employee to obtain New York State certification as a certified Nursing Assistant. In addition to routine attendance and participation in the training program(s), the position involves routine work requiring efficient performance of simple tasks under general supervision. Supervision of others is not a responsibility of this class. Incumbents work under the direct supervision of CNR nursing leadership. A Certified Nursing Assistant Trainee does related work as assigned.
Position Duties
- Participates in both classroom and clinical training as specified by the State to learn the duties and responsibilities of a certified Nursing Assistant;
- Studies and learns facility policies and practices applicable to Nursing Assistants;
- Takes a Nursing Assistant examination at the conclusion of the course to seek New York State certification as a Nursing Assistant;
- Assists residents by transporting them within the facility to various programs of interest;
- Makes beds and changes linen as directed;
- Places residents' personal clothing in wardrobes and drawers;
- Straightens residents’ rooms and wardrobes, makes sure televisions and radios are off when not in use;
- Distributes and collects residents’ meal trays on the facility neighborhoods;
- Assists in the dining room with pouring beverages, passing plates, cutting food, opening containers, etc.;
- Provides verbal cues for residents to complete their meal, records intakes if instructed;
- Passes nourishments to residents and documents per protocol;
- Distributes ice and water pitchers;
- Answers residents’ nurse call light and assists with non-clinical requests;
- Delivers residents’ newspapers and/or mail;
- Operates elevators to aid in transporting residents to/from activities, in-house therapy appointments, etc.;
- Transports residents in wheelchairs;
- Assists in preparing rooms for new admissions or room changes;
- Gets rooms prepared for resident programs;
- Socializes with residents; and
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Other Qualifications
- Working towards State certification as a Nursing Assistant.
- Enrollment in the examination process when deemed eligible by the training program.

NOTE: Livingston County residency is not a requirement for this position. However, Livingston County residents will be given preference in the hiring process.
